Someone here interviewed for biochemistry and was told 50% would be accepted. Another person (I believe MCB) was told 2/3. I have a friend who interviewed for Developmental that felt that because so few of them interviewed, almost all of the DB people would be accepted.

During my interview I asked two grad students… their conversation went something like this:
“Most of you will be accepted.”
“Actually, DBBS is only taking 2/3 of all applicants this year”
“Yeah, which is still almost everyone”

So there you have it. Still, quite nebulous. Sounds like 2/3 total, with different programs accepting more or less students. The grad students estimated the entering class target size to be 80, but they weren’t sure. So if they interview 240 and accept 160, then with a 50% malticulation rate they’ll have class size of 80. If the size of my interview weekend was average, I’d say they are interviewing closer to 300. Of course, this is all extremely speculative!

I’m anxiously waiting… I LOVED the program and will be absolutely devastated if I don’t get accepted.

(BTW, it’s a rough interview. You’ll need to know your research thoroughly…expect tough questions!)

i was at washu this weekend to check out the neuro program and i also absolutely loved it. i believe that i will hear back today, at least if i am admitted. i’m almost 100% positive that i will be attending dbbs if accepted so maybe i’ll see you there!

even if rejected, i got plenty of good back-up options (utsw and most likely, hopkins) so i’m not too worried. nevertheless, for my primary research interest (non-cell autonomous toxicity/spread in neurodegenerative disorders), washu is among the best.

I expect to hear back sometime this week as well (er, if I am accepted). If we both get in you will almost certainly see me there. I will interview at a few other schools, but they would have to completely wow me to get me to change my mind - Wash U is one of the best (if not THE best) for my field of interest!

@molbio, I wouldn’t get to anxious yet. I interviewed there for developmental bio, and I think all of us have heard back by now, but that’s because there were only 9 of us that weekend. The larger programs only make a handful of offers this year (at least that’s what I was told), and many people won’t year good or bad news until March. Hang in there!

Official rejection from Rockefeller. Not least bit sad, it was expected and I just thought to give it a shot anyway.

I’m still irritated that Princeton takes like a month to get back to us. Ugh, I hate waiting. And I’m still banking on this acceptance because I loved the program by miles above the rest. I’m even looking forward to living in NJ at this point, craziness.

Seems there’s a lot of mystery as to the post-interview acceptance rate. btw I just saw your post a couple weeks back asking the same question I asked. lol. According to Peterson’s DBBS’s acceptance rate was 34% last year, which means they admit around 280 students if 800 applied. I think that would be A LOT considering that last year’s class size (Peterson’s stat again) was 120 something. Then the matriculation rate would be kind of low. I guess I should stop speculating and start to prep for the interview. I’d expect tough questions, considering that my research projects are close to the research of quite a few PIs there.

When was your interview? Hope you hear back from them soon. Fingers crossed:)

I’m flying out to Princeton Molecular Bio this weekend. For those of you who have already interviewed at Princeton, what was your interview experience like?

^ I interview with Princeton Neuro and it was AWESOME. PM me if you want to know more, but I’m not sure at how similar/different the interviews are. Probably very similar. You can also email the grad students (on the website), they are very friendly.

Pilsung - are you international (and live out of the US?) Lots of schools are loathe to pay for your expensive flights from another country, and concerns have arisen regarding phone interviews, and the possibility of someone ELSE talking for you. Hence… skype!

@ wazza10
No word from IGP… They haven’t contacted me yet, and by now, they probably won’t.
Too bad, I really liked the program.
But I absolutely fell in love with BCM!!! So I am hoping to hear good things from this one…
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!

So I know this has been brought up before, but I couldn’t find a definite answer… anyone know how many people interview for Stanford Neuro specifically, and how many they accept post-interview?

I think those stats might not be up to date, I heard that they had 440 applicants this year… From what I’ve heard most places aim for a class of 10 or so and expect about 40% to accept their offers, so if you do the math that means number of offers in the high 20s.
