2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

For those applying to UPenn CAMB - DSCRB program :they are still reviewing application and will probably send out the invites around next week.

One question:

Would it be okay to miss a faculty-student dinner/party (if you can’t stay for these events)? Would this look bad? Are we being “assesed” in these events as well?

Got an invitation for phoneinterview to U of Michigan, PIBS. I’m an international and I can’t believe I had to wait so much longer than the domestic applicants.
but still, I’m happy happy- It’s the first program I’ve heard from.

I got a call from UVA (Microbiology/Immunology/Infectious Disease), invited to interview.

Thats the last school I was waiting on (5/5 yay!), so goodbye to these forums! Thanks for the distractions from the stresses and anxiety of waiting

Shannonista - if there are no other low-key socializing type events, it might hurt you as no one will be able to get a sense of your personality, which in my program, is a significant consideration. If there are other breakfasts/lunches, you’re probably fine missing it.

wow someone on gradcafe reports that they got invited to tetrad today…and I thought it was all over

@hutchtech - i was thinking the exact same thing :)…still haven’t seen a single international person say they’ve heard from tetrad though…maybe they’re not inviting ANY this year :frowning: lol

Rejection from UCSF today. Oh well; I’m looking forward to leaving California, so I can’t be too bummed!

Has anyone heard from Stanford Biosciences Microbiology/Immunology program? Seems like it’s the only one that hasn’t started sending out invites yet.

Heard back from all my programs now:

Rejected: UCSF (Neuroscience), Harvard (Neuroscience; assumed rejection)

Interview (w/ approx dates): UTSW (DBS; 1/15), Wash-Seattle (Neuro; 1/22), Pitt (Neuro, 1/29), Johns Hopkins (Neuro, 2/5), WashU (DBBS Neuro, 2/12), Kentucky (IBS, 2/19), Northwestern (Neuro, 2/26).

Declined Interview Invite: UTHSCSA

Good luck everyone!

About UCSF Tetrad - Just called, they said all interview notices are out now, by email. They said if you haven’t gotten one yet, then you aren’t going to. Also, no wait list etc., so no news means rejected and you get a letter eventually telling you that.

anyone heard anything from stanford biosciences cancer biology stream? seems like no one has posted any news from them, either…

Just wondering: sounds like the financial situation in CA affected UCSF decisions…so this would not be the case for private schools there (and in other states), right? just wanted to make sure that this is not a totally bad year to apply…for international students

Interviews: U. Chicago (Dev. Bio, 1/21), UW-Madison (Genetics, 1/28), UC Berkeley (MCB, 2/7), Duke (Dev. and Stem Bio, 2/18), Stanford (Dev. Bio, 3/3)

Declined Interview: U. Oregon (Biology)

Waiting to hear from: Harvard (OEB)

kwhitman: I thought there are disparities between international applicants and US citizens. Even for Stanford and some private schools, I heard that most funding goes to US citizens instead of international folks. I read that somewhere on the Stanford website.

Anyone heard from Upenn CAMB Genetics and Gene Regulation track?
I’m an international applicant, currently not in US…worried about this.

Hey Serric,

did you get the rejection from UCSF via email/call/mail or status update and what program? Seems like I am in line for rejection from there as well…

@kwhitman - I was also worried about whether CA’s budget issues would heavily affect their decisions, but I got interviews from all the other UC schools I applied to. Ah well, UCSF’s med school does accept mostly in-staters…

yaygrady,

expecting that UCSF rejection any moment now as well :<

Just got my UCSF BMS rejection by email. I kind of knew that was coming for almost a month and least now it’s official.
