2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Come to think of it, I applied to the Biology and Microbiology programs at MIT, but only got the rejection from Biology program…

@MedicalScientist

By the way, when is the Harvard Immunology visit weekend?

This is true. I can only think of 3 faculty members that absolutely fit the bill.

Those are some pretty awesome bragging rights to have, though!

I also received my rejection from MIT Biology today as well

GRE: 800Q, 640V, 60.AW
Institution: Yale University - Biology major

Applied: Yale BBS, Harvard BBS, Columbia, UPenn BMB, MIT Biology, Princeton, U Chicago
Interviews: Yale BBS, Columbia, UPenn, Princeton (declined), U Chicago (declined)
Rejected: MIT Bio
Waiting: Harvard BBS (has anyone heard from them?)

I think MIT Biology preferred students who are chem majors, though I am not sure…

All the current first-years I know majored in biological fields.

Got rejected by UC San Francisco (Tetrad) by email and UC Berkeley (MCB) by phone. I called UC Berkeley MCB today and they told me that they have sent out all interview invitations, so those who haven’t received anything have been rejected, like me.

Still waiting on Stanford (Biosciences) and UC Davis (Genetics). Getting really worried!

Did any international student actually get invited to anywhere?

@cooper22

Harvard interview weekend is Jan 28 - Jan 31.

@GAATTC

It seems like another rejection for me for UC Berkeley(MCB). Thanks for the info!

@Izh

Thanks – which program did you ask about? Integrated Studies Program perhaps?

Thanks for the info about Berkeley MCB. I really liked the place when I visited that’s too bad.

Should I be worried since I only got two interviews(Yale BBS and Princeton MCB) out of the six places I applied to? I am not best the interviewer and would like to cover my bases just in case I am not admitted this time around.

@GAATTC

Guess that means I’m rejected from Berkeley MCB as well. Today sucks.

@TCellDude

I know what you mean. I only have one interview so I’m extra nervous. If I blow it I’m screwed, needless to say.

@huchtech

We just have to think positively about things. The odds are in our favor. At least we don’t have to go through the stress of med school interviews where most accept less than 50 percent of those they interview.

@TcellDude

I thought some grad programs accepted much less than 50% of those they interview. My friend interviewed at Sinai and they told her that they accept about 23% of those that they interview. :(

Just got an interview offer via email from Weill Cornell PBSB program.

I’m an international and here is my stat.

GPA 3.4/4.0
GRE Q 800/ V 670/ 4.5
2.5 years research expereiences, 1 publication as second author, 1 grant award from an international meeting.

Only applied for this program. Currently in a graduate program nearby Weill Cornell. I’m happy for the offer!

That may be true microphd, but tcelldude is interviewing at yale and i heard from one of my friends who interviewed there that they accepted practically everyone. more of a screening than an actual interview i guess.

i would definitely like that better; much less stress post-interview!
best of luck TcellDude!

Received invitation for interview at BCM ( TBMM program ) today!

Interviews: Yale BBS, Columbia, NYU, Northwestern, BCM
Rejected: none
Waiting: Harvard BBS, Stanford , UPenn, JHU, Weill Cornell (not expecting), GSK (not expecting)

Has this always been harvard BBS’s website: [Ph.D. Programs in Biological and Biomedical Sciences - Harvard Medical School](<a href=“Harvard Biological & Biomedical Sciences PhD Program”>Harvard Biological & Biomedical Sciences PhD Program)

??

Im beginning to worry that i applied to the wrong program…

They just recently redesigned their website.

For those who have attended or will be soon attending interview weekends, please post your experiences, I mean, what the interview, dinner, poster sessions, etc. were like.
It will be very good for people like me, who have not attended any yet.
Thanks guys!
