2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Thanks for the response, Mollie. It’s true, I probably can’t hope to make a decision before getting out to the schools and talking to people.

P.S. I was reading your blog when I was a pre-frosh! Time flies…

Back in the states!

Here is a pseudo final update. I have heard back from every school and received interview invitations (besides Rockefeller).

For those still waiting, I’ve heard back from the following:
UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, USC, Wake Forest, UNC CH, U Chicago, Northwestern, NYU Sackler, Cornell Weill, Sloan Kettering, Vanderbilt and UPenn.

I’ll be going to the GSK interview (Tomorrow woo!), UPenn on Feb 4, Cornell on Feb 18, and Chicago on the 25th.

Good luck to everyone on their interviews and good luck to those still waiting.

Good luck for GSK interviews tomorrow! I heard there are 50 interviewees! yikes!

50? Ouch! I’m hoping that means a few more spots haha. I checked into the hotel today. Pretty nice place! Though I guess the New Yorkers probably don’t get to stay there huh?

@GCN2 :
Wow- it’s gonna be a busy month for u!
When did u hear from U penn? I really really would like to hear from them… T.T
do u know whether they contact in waves? or all at once?

I just had my cornell interview by video conference (Ithaca, not Weill though)
It was pretty relaxed…

good luck on all of ur interviews!

UPenn CAMB interview was very relaxing…i had a great time there! Grad students and faculty were really chill and seemed really happy…i had a wonderful time overall and left with a very positive impression.

Wish I could hear back from california…guess they dont seem to like me:(

Thank you regenerateIT

@ jambromr:
Did you hear from the bph program of Harvard?? Actually, I’ve also got an interview invitation from same program!! I think that we can meet in the Boston on February!
What about other schools?? It seems that our interests are similar (I’d also applied to the Cornell ithaka). Nice to meet u~~ I hope that I meet you in many other interviews! Good Luck~~

New to this forum. Wish I had found it a month ago, probably would have made me less crazy. lol

I received an email for the recruitment weekend at UT Austin’s CMB program on 01/08. I replied the same day confirming my preference for the January recruitment. I have not heard a thing since. Is this normal? I’m going to call the coordinator tomorrow just in case. The last day to confirm for the February recruitment weekend is Friday and I’m not leaving that to chance. haha

Also, does anyone know what the stats are for acceptance after the recruitment weekend?

New to the forum also…

Applied: MIT BCS, UCLA Neuroscience, UC Berkeley Neuroscience, UC Davis Neuroscience, Stanford Neuroscience, Harvard Neuroscience, Rockefeller, Caltech, Duke Cog Sci, Columbia Behavior & Neurobio, UCSD Neuroscience

Interviews: UCLA Neuro, MIT BCS, UC Davis Neuro, Columbia Neuro

Can post stats if anyone wants.

At this point, I’m sure I didn’t get Rockefeller or Harvard Neuro, but does anyone know if Stanford Neuro is still sending out?

I applied to UC Berkeley Neuroscience as well. I heard they sent out some invites last week, but they will continue to send them this week?

Has anyone heard if the UC Irvine INP is done with invites?

hi everyone,
stumbled onto this thread couple days ago and it’s been very helpful.

just for anyone who applied to mit bcs and still wondering why they didn’t hear from mit, seems like interviewing is pretty much done.

@molliebatmit
i saw on one of your previous posts that harvard bbs usu. has 50-60 ppl who accept, so nearly double the # of acceptance offers given. i can’t seem to get any official #'s regarding this. are there any around on the internet? can’t seem to find it on dms or bbs websites. thnx!

@jaimeking

yes I’m going to the february recruitment weekend too!
I’ll prolly see you there then! Harvard’s my first choice so i’m pretty excited

As I said I had a video conference interview with Cornell last night (I’m international) and I would like to think it went pretty well - they said they’ll be interviewing all through February and that they’ll let me know by the end of next month…so i’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I got a rejection from MIT :frowning: but still haven’t heard from other schools including U penn and Stanford - I’m about ready to give up

Not that I’ve seen. I’m obviously more confident with the size of the first-year class – my spreadsheet tells me that average class size over the past four years has been 59.5. :slight_smile:

But I don’t actually know how many students are invited. I can only extrapolate from the number of students who seem to be at recruitment each year, but I’m not totally confident that there are ~50 per weekend. I don’t think it’s more than 50x2, but it could be less.

Unfortunately, my numbers are probably about as good as it gets.

coggrad: stats would be nice if you don’t mind.
