Yeah, I hate the bloody wait. I only applied to 5 schools; haven’t heard from any of them yet. Which schools did you apply to/hear from?

Although I must say: the fact that others applying to the same program haven’t heard back is slightly heartening. Just gives a glimmer of hope that I (and we) aren’t totally out of the running yet

I also applied to micro programs. Out of the 13 schools I’ve applied, I have heard from only one. I am an int’l applicant, though.
I e-mailed some schools today, and the program coordinator at UT Southwestern told me that they make decisions about oversea applicants without interviewing them (us, hehe), and that my application was currently being reviewed by the program’s committee.
UT Austin Micro program secretary said no one who has applied to the fall 2010 program has been ruled out at this time. Still I am not sure about my chances there, I think some people in this thread got invites already.
But, from all other schools, no word…
btw, any of you guys applied to Baylor? Inteviewing there?

I applied to BCM, haven’t heard from them yet. Although I did only send my application the day of the deadline :S. Hope that hasn’t screwed me over.

You’re international you say? From whereabouts? I just hope the overseas applications part is true (although I wouldn’t mind an all expense paid trip :D)

@thetsb:
I am an international but I will receive a US degree. I applied to Stanford, NW, Dartmouth, Tufts, Virginia. I was invited to Umass and University of Rochester.

@ thetsb
Yes, I am. From South America.
But I will be in the US in February, and I will be attending BCM (mol viro/microbiol) interview weekend. They covered my travel expenses (obviously only domestic flights - I won’t be staying in TX, only going there for the interview). I hope you get that too. I think Canadians are considered the same way domestic applicants (for travel expenses), right?
It would be nice to “know” someone there… Good luck!!! :)

Oh, the overseas thing, only for UT, not Baylor.

Northwestern is one of the schools that is totally driving me crazy. I sent my application on Nov. 29th, and, only last week (or the week before that) I was informed that it was completed. It took forever to have THIS information… So, now I am waiting again… I know people here got invites already to IGP. It is so annoying… not knowing anything about the whole situation…

Oh man, same for me. I sent out my UMass application a long while ago, and the website still says incomplete. I’ve tried emailing them, but I get a standard automated reply and no response from anyone in charge. I tried calling them to no avail either. Waste of a bloody application.

Question on interviews: should I plan to have anything with me to give to my interviewer like a CV or any information on poster presentations, etc.? I would think not, but I just wanted to be sure.

I have given up all hopes for JHU because the credential agency evaluating my transcripts STILL has not sent my transcripts to the school - it’s extremely frustrating because it keeps telling me they’ll send them next week… and that has been almost a month.
So yeah… JH is definitely out -
I’m hoping to hear from Yale tho… have u heard from Yale yet?

I kept 5 or 6 copies of my CV just in case. The people interviewing you will have read your info. beforehand but I always like to have some in the off chance they want a copy in front of them. I have not needed it so far, though.

The two of you are there to talk. Who has time to look at a CV? Besides, you’ve been selected to interview precisely because of how you look on paper, so a CV contributes nothing new.

LTP405: I am also planning on going the 26th as well! The 5th interferes with my Princeton interview. Brandeis has some nice labs (at least to my taste). I think it should be ranked much higher. Hope I’ll see you there. Probably wont be too many girls from Toronto. (if you suspect it is me - say hi - and that goes for everyone interviewing at the places I am as well!)

As for the purse thing. I did, I carried a purse around (so weird for me, I am NOT a girl that does that on a regular basis). It was nice, cash, camera, sheets you should have on you (like rooms/interviews, etc.).

I’m probably going to bring a backpack or sling bag with me on the interview, so I can have my laptop, camera, various hard copies of important stuff, water, and top secret elixir to interview success. Is this a bad idea/will it weigh me down?

It is great to know there are other micro/immuno applicants in this forum! I’m an international, currently in the US doing my masters. Interested in Virology.
It is consoling to know that most micro/immuno applicants haven’t heard back from many schools.

I’ve applied to Stanford Biosciences, WashU DBBS, UWash Micro, UPenn CAMB (MVP), Emory IMP, Wisconsin MDTP, Northwestern IGP and NYU Sackler.

Do tell me where you guys have applied to.

I called Northwestern IGP, they are not done sending invites. But since the first weekend is coming up, we can rule ourselves of it if we haven’t heard anything. But there is still hope!

Just waiting for a reject from Stanford

I did see that people got invites from UWash Microbio, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed (considering I applied exactly 3 months ago!).

All I have as of now, is WashU DBBS interview to look forward to.

That’s great! I’m looking forward to meeting you there. I bet I’ll be the only guy coming from the UK so I’ll be quite easy to spot (and hopefully not too jet lagged!). This is my only interview in the US so far (I have a couple more lined up in England), so I bet it will be quite an experience. Yeah, I’m surprised that Brandeis isn’t ranked higher. It’s one of my top choices because I’m very interested in several PIs who study neurodevelopment and molecular motors there. What are your (general) interests? See you there!

I’ve applied to UPenn CMB (Micro/viro/parasitology), Yale BBS (Micro track), Harvard (DMS: Virology), Albert Einstein and BCM.

Haven’t heard back from anyone. I m prolly going to send these people an email and ask them if/when they’re going to send out interview information etc.
