2010 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

Kind of bummed about Berkeley neuro. Only two people have heard so far?

Anyone have an update on how the Harvard BBS acceptances are going? It seems like there was only one wave. Any news of an additional one?

Thanks.

Just joined, so wanted to share that I have gotten interviews from UCLA ACCESS, Caltech Bioengineering, and UW MCB. I heard from PIBBS that they were interested but didn’t get my transcript, but at this point I wouldn’t interview there anyway-- it was my last choice based on the faculty research there.

Anyone here applying to bioengineering programs? Heard anything about UC Berkeley/UCSF Bioengineering?

general question:

if you have been offered an admission by the school how long do you have before you have accept or decline from it?

@hamster09
In general, you have until Apr.15 to decide which school you will go. This deadline is set by the graduate school counsel. There will be exceptions, of course.

@ishuku: I emailed Berkeley Neuro yesterday. They said they have finished sending out invitations.

On a similar note, I also sent an email to Irvine INP. They have finished reviewing applications and will be sending out invitations shortly.

Anybody else out there for Stanford MCP?

I was informed by faculty at UTSW that bio grad schools have made a “gentleman’s agreement” to not pressure applicants to decide before April 15. Once an admission offer is extended, it cannot be taken back just because you are looking at other programs and are biding your time. Remember that graduate schools aren’t worried about filling a certain number of spots. Thus, if you later reject their offer, no skin off their backs.

Wow we’re on page 100 already! Has anybody heard back from the CMB program at Stony Brook? I emailed the program administrator the other day and all she said was to keep checking the online application system, though all it tells me is that my application is complete.

@trachemysscripta-- Ahh, thank you! That does it for my neuro applications-- 1 interview out of 3. I guess I’m just waiting to hear from 2 psychology programs now.

Hi, is it cellucer and Molecular Biology program. I also applied but no news.

Hang in there, People (you too, RIO2016)

It’s great to know you’re interested in Micro/Immuno/Virol program. So do I. I’ll only apply to grad school for the Fall 2011, but this process is already driving me crazy (Toefl, GRE Transcrip…). Some of you are also I’ntl applicant, as I am. Could you please post your stats here (some of you may have already done this before, but I haven’t found them or you can send me a PM with your stats).

@thetsb

Do you know if the Harvard DMS Virology program interviews candidates?

Hey all! This forum has helped me so much that I def have to contribute.
So far I’ve had interview invites from UNC BBSP and Mt. Sinai and I’m still waiting for Emory, Albert Einstein, and UChicago (i think i def missed that ship).
I heard from UNC in early Dec and from Sinai in Jan.
If anybody has heard from Emory and Einstein for Immuno/Micro could you please share! thanks

Hey all -
My first interviews start this weekend
Tufts Sackler ISP - Jan 22
Albert Einstein Biomed Sci - Jan 25 & 26

Stats-
GPA 3.9 from California State University (CSU)
GRE 800Q/510V/4.0W
No subject test
2.5 years research experience at UCSF with first author paper in preparation
International student w/ US degree

Hope to see some of you there!

@microphd

Yay for more micro/virology people!

UChicago’s BMS program only had one open weekend left (2/4-2/6) when they sent me an invite, so I think they’re done. =(

One of my labmates applied to Emory micro/immuno and hasn’t heard anything from them yet (and he’s kind of a shoo-in as his PI is an adjunct prof there) so I don’t think they’ve started sending out invites yet.

Has anyone heard from Yale yet?

Anyone going to be at UW-Seattle for micro/virology on 2/7-2/9?

@microphd: I heard from Emory IMP. They have an interview weekend Feb 18-20. I was notified on Monday 1/18 by email. I have no idea if they are still sending out invites.

Anyone heard back from UCSD chem/biochem? I would really like to know what their interview dates are so that I may save the date!

Received an interview invite from USC Neuroscience today. Interview weekend Feb 4-7.

Thanks variola and biomed2010!

I hope that Emory IMP just started sending out invites and now that I know they have at least sent out one I can start freaking out.
Best of luck with the interview!!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think the ship’s sailed on Albert Einstein. Their first interview weekend was Jan. 15-16, and their last is this Sunday, Jan. 24-Jan. 26th.
