OMG Uchicago was my first choice and Im shocked!!!

@GCN2: This is the talk I’m going for tomorrow morning…be jealous ![]()
“A View from the Outside-In: The Tumor Microenvironment in Cancer Progression and Therapy Resistance”

Also, for everyone applying to GSK. They’re going to be sending out acceptances next week (and not tomorrow)…guess we’re just going to have to be nervous through the weekend.

@microphd
I’ve been trying to call Emory (GDBBS) on the phone they provide on the “contact us” part of their site, but I get no answer. And I tried several times, different times of the day! And before that, I e-mailed them, but also, no answer. I didn’t apply to IMP though (that was my 2nd choice), my 1st choice was microbiology & mol genetics - but I think the phone number and e-mails are the same for all GDBBS programs.

UMich ecology and evolutionary biology interview!!

2 in one day

well about time, I finally got my Rockefeller package…

And @bluepeach, afaik at Stanford biosci they do a first round cut based on gpa and gre. If it’s truly horrendous you’re just out, but if it’s simply bad you’re not out of the running but you’re put into a different pile.

phDhopeful,
Whew, thanks for the update. Now I don’t need to check my email or jump at phone calls over the weekend. Not air on the talk btw haha.

Is there anyone going to the UNC chapel hill BBSP next weekend who has gotten information on who they are interviewing with or an itinerary or anything? I haven’t heard since I made my travel arrangements and I’m getting a little nervous…

thnx to mollieb, krypton and whoever else w/ the help on harvard bbs.

i’m wondering if anybody heard anything today?

Stanford Biochemistry, Biology, and MCP will all be sending their final interview invitations next week.

Heard from Univ. of Utah Molecular Biology ( a professor , whose work I meantioned in my SOP called!). i think it would be a good practice for interview before I go to Duke. They say the dress code is semi casual–speaking of that–does anyone know the dress code for Duke interview?

heard back from BCM molecular and cell biology yesterday interview feb. 25-28

momwaitingfornew: i guess i no longer know how to answer your question. after reading other posts, i felt that i’m stupid in not throwing more applications. i guess the risk of failure is just too great for me now.

pentaligin: thanks. my gre verbal score sucks, but my quantitative portion is decent. my gpa? eh…I guess it’s not good or bad. i’m just going to wait until i hear from them, even if they send me a rejection letter.

i guess i’m just a bit discouraged since folks with higher cumulative gre scores are viewed as better candidates. someone with a high gpa and gre score might not be a good researcher. i can see the importance of the quantitative section in science, but regarding the verbal part, it can be hard for folks whose English is not their first language. some folks just don’t do better on standardized tests…and i guess that i will have to go to asia next year to attend a gre cram school to make myself a 1600 candidate.

Ha…nevermind about the UCLA EEB question…got an official interview invite. =)

pentaligin,

did you get an acceptance package from rockefeller today? where are you located, if you don’t mind sharing? thanks.

I didn’t mean to make you feel bad, Bluepeach. I apologize, if I did. Since some Stanford programs are still reviewing, you still have a chance. I just wondered if someone had advised you to do this, or if you had personal reasons for staying in Silicon Valley.

hi momwaitingfornew, don’t worry! you and everyone else here are not making me feel bad (well, at least not that baaaaaaaaad)! i’m an optimistic person, and i am definitely learning from people throughout life. life goes on too, so even if i get rejected, i’ll keep smiling, work harder, and apply again!

i’ve never lived in the silicon valley area. i am currently in the midwest and have been here for too long! the snow and cold weather are definitely bugging me although it’s warmer here this winter. i think it’s about time to move to a different area to explore different lab atmosphere and to network around. i chose not to apply to some other schools i had visited at my own expense, and i am not ready to move to the east coast for now…

my history is complicated too, for i have been to different places. although i am a US citizen, i lived most of my life in a different continent and came back six to seven years ago. I’m one of those first generation X-born Y, you know.

i also prefer to be realistic with things. i do dream and try to fulfill my dreams, but knowing the reality can move me forward in planning for next year too…so don’t worry too much about it :)

i thought the upenn stem cell program would announce this week…

@bikohcello: yes, CA.

does anyone know if the following programs are done sending out invites:
northwestern IBiS
UCLA access
UCSC (biomedical sciences: MCD)
USC biology
Cal Tech biology

also, did anyone apply to UC berkeley’s infectious disease and immunity program?

Hey newbio,

I got a Caltech Biology invite on 1/20. Someone on gradcafe reported getting one on Jan 6 though. In past years, they sent out notices over a 2 or 3 week period. So I’m not sure when they will be completely done but it would appear that they do not send them all out at once.

FYI the visit days are Feb 11-12 and Feb 25-26. Good luck!
