Do you mean at the hotel? It would depend if the hotel has free wi-fi or not. If it’s not free, then it’s considered an incidental and you’re responsible for it.

Incidental? Blast, looks like I’ll have to get my weather report from the tube then. :(

And yes, I was referring to a hotel stay.

I had called NYU Sackler a while ago. They have a total of 5 interview weekends.

I can count 4 as of now:

Yes they are still reviewing apps. So hang in there.

if they only have one interview weekend for the program, you should hear back sometime in the week after you interview

if they have more than one, they are waiting until everybody interviews to make a decision so it will be after the other interview weekends

Anyone else going to the cal interview Feb 7-9th? I’m excited!!

@kryptonsa36 often hotels will have free wi-fi in the lobby, you can ask the front desk what your options are?? if not, see if there’s a starbucks in walking distance :)

Hey guys just got an invite from weill’s imp program, so for those of you still waiting don’t lose hope yet!! :)

To all who applied for Dartmouth MCB Program; the last period of time when applicants get notified for interviews is the middle of next week; good luck - I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Just got email from NYU Sackler (I interviewed Jan 14-16). Said I was a strong applicant and they are seriously considering me for admission but that I expressed during the interviews to a grad student or something, that I was no longer seriously considering NYU for graduate studies and that if this is true, they’d like to know so they can offer acceptance to someone who is seriously considering it. So I said it is true (it is true) and basically told them I no longer wish to be considered for acceptance.

Hopefully this frees up some spots for anyone considering NYU Sackler! It really looks like a good program, really, but just not for me, at all. So yeah. I just hope this extends offers to someone who might have less experience or like lower marks than me but clearly would love to be at NYU for the research, the place, everything. I don’t want to take their spot away just to say I have x amount of acceptances.

Anyone going to UC Santa Cruz this weekend?

I have finally gotten an e-mail response from GDBBS secretary.
According to her, interview invites are not over.

“No, all interviews have not been extended yet. They are still in the process of reviewing the application materials and deciding who to invite for interviews.”

So, anyone who applied there might have a chance!! ![]()
I applied to Microbiol & Mol Genetics, but she did not mention any program in this e-mail. I am not sure if this is true only for MMG or for all GDBBS programs.
Hope this helps.

Emory IMP told me last week that the first invitations went out on Monday 1/18 and they were sent throughout the week. I do not know if they are continuing or if they’re done.

Random question regarding attire:
If the dress code is business causal, could I wear a suit without necktie during the interview? The place where I am having my first interview is very, very cold…

I saw plenty of people with blazers and shirts, so yea. Also, a nice sweater and khakis would work as well.

Need help thinking of filler questions during interviews… other than “What makes this program different than other programs?” and “Is there anything you would change?” etc…

minitwinkie:

I don’t know how appropriate that last question is. It’s not offensive or anything but a little strange (to me, anyway). That seems like a question to ask the graduate students, not faculty.

There is nothing wrong with asking those types of questions. Faculty know you are interviewing the graduate program just as much as they are interviewing you.

If anything, they will be surprised NOT to receive questions from applicants asking why students should prefer the professors’ home institution versus some other one.

Haha, okay, rephrase, “What are the strengths and weaknesses of this program?”
