pretty much everyone on this whole freaking thread was accepted except me

@ stupefy

I don’t think you’re the only one, trust me. I think that everyone who got rejected just doesn’t feel like taking the time to post stats and waste more time thinking about a school they didn’t get in?

Idk, just a guess. But all my friends just went out and had fun last night, and didn’t really feel like looking at other people who got in, especially if they had similar stats.

But it’s okay stupefy, everything happens for a reason. You will end up at the school you will be happiest at.

Time: None?
They somehow forgot about releasing the decision of my application and so I resorted to calling them. The admissions lady was very excited to tell me the good news she said, as she didn’t want to hand out bad news over the phone. I got a very generous scholarship of 50K, and seeing this much financial aid, I am overwhelmed, although I still must wait for some other schools!

[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Waitlisted because there were better applicants from my school. Also my EC’s are average at best. Perhaps an interview would have helped me…[/li] [/ul]**General Comments: Start your college search in the summer. Stay organized and also make sure you have a clear idea of what the schools are looking for. If your time and money are going to be invested in completing these apps, you might as well make it the best damn application you can. Also once you send in your applications stop worrying and focus on the other things in your life. Being paranoid and worrisome will not affect your decision. You will know your decision in time, so there’s no use in fretting over it. **

[] Teacher Recommendations: Thought they were pretty solid, had a teacher in my intended major (physics) write one. Friend of mine was accepted to Pratt ED and he had the same two teachers write his recommendations. Maybe they just like him more than me lol.

[] Additional Rec: None
[] Interview: Went fairly well, although the woman was kind of negative about the people at Duke (she called them “rich” and “snobby”). She didn’t really seem to be trying very hard to sell me on the school.

[] Strengths: Good essays, decent test scores
[] Weaknesses: Low class rank + GPA, not a whole lot of extracurriculars relating to my major
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Duke, while it is an awesome school, just never seemed perfect for me. That’s probably why I put far less work into my Duke Application than I did for other schools like Brown or Tufts. I think part of me just wanted to leave North Carolina for college. In retrospect, I wish I had put some more work into writing the essays and actually appearing interested in the school.[/li][/ul]General Comments: First Rejection :/. Waitlisted from UChicago. Waiting to hear from Brown, Yale, and Tufts. Oh well, there are worse fates, like being buried alive. At least I’m not that.

Duke’s been one of my top choices since the freaking 7th grade. It’s awesome. But I have some other choices ahead of it (Dartmouth and Columbia) so I’ll have to wait before I decide whether or not I’ll go there.

^^ freezing Dartmouth and Columbia ahead of sunny and warm Duke? You’re crazy.

Dartmouth ahead of Duke makes all the sense in the world to me. No real comparison there.

Duke ranks higher than Dartmouth in the most recent reports I’ve read… although I would love to go to each equally. They’re both fantastic institutions.

[/ul]General Comments: I’m happy that I was accepted, but I also feel rather guilty, because there are definitely a lot of people who were rejected who want to go to Duke a lot more than I do. I did this application last-minute after getting rejected EA at Stanford- I literally filled it out (no supplemental essays, thank God!) in fifteen minutes the day before flying to Cancun for winter break. Considering my lack of effort and no interview request, I actually did not expect to be accepted. So I suppose I was pleasantly surprised? But to all of you who really want to go to Duke, and are waitlisted/rejected- I’m truly sorry. If I could give you my spot, I would.
