Congratulations to all who got in!
To everyone else: I am sure a great and amazing university will be thrilled to have you! If you applied to Duke, I am sure you are an amazing student and you will have many great options to choose from. Good luck!
D will be visiting Vandy, WashU and Bowdoin soon to make her final decision.

my D also rejected. 4.0 UW, 1/150, 35 ACT. One just never knows why or why not one gets admitted.

Decision: Accepted

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown):770 (CR), 670(M), 740(W) (Total: 2180/2400)
ACT: N/A
SAT II (if submitted): 720/700/670 (US History, Literature, Chemistry)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.9
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Top 10%
AP (place score in parenthesis): World History (5), US History (5), Chemistry (3), English Language (4)
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: AP Literature, AP Comparitive Politics, AP Government, AP Psychology, Ledership development (yes, it is a class at my school), Physics HN, Calculus
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): AP Scholar, National Achievement Semifinalist, West Point Ethics Conference, National Society of High School Scholars

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership and number of years participated in a certain activity in parenthesis): Student Government (2 Years), Key Club Vice President (3 years), School Representative in county government (1 year), Lead Hardware Developer for FIRST Robotics team (2 years), National Honor Society (1 year)
Job/Work Experience: Summer internship at County Sheriffā€™s office
Volunteer/Community service: volunteer work at local library, Food and clothing Drives for Key Club and National Honor Society, Chemistry and algebra tutor
Essays: Common App essay was my strongest essay, wrote an optional essay about DukeEngage and why I love community service.
Teacher Recommendation (only if you saw it): I had two, think they were pretty solid
Counselor Rec (only if you saw it): Decent
Additional Rec (only if you saw it): See comment on teacher rec
Interview: Submitted really early so I could get one, think it went really well

Other
Applied for Financial Aid: Yes
Intended Major: Psychology (but will definitely get Pre-Law advising)
State (if domestic applicant): VA (Northern)
Country (if international applicant): N/A
School Type: Mid-size public (Very competitive county, only one other person from school got in)
Ethnicity: African-American
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: Mid 70,000
Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.): URM, first gen college student, both parents are wounded military veterans from Persian gulf

Reflection
Strengths: Test scores, grades, dedication? Probably my recommendations, but essay was decent, raised my SAT score 310 pts in two months, solid grades, I have ALOT of leadership positions in clubs (see extracurriculars for activities)
Weaknesses: I donā€™t think test scores were very high, mid year report was not straight Aā€™s. Also, I was still tired from the work I put into Harvard app
Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I am an URM, I put alot of work into school, and I have strong amount of community involvement

General Comments: I am really happy I got in, Duke is my first choice. I applied to Harvard and Yale, but I donā€™t see myself getting in to either. I also got into UVA, UChicago, and Baylor U, but I will probably go with Duke unless an Ivy wants to give me a full ride.
Congrats to everyone else that got in, hope to see you on campus!!!

GO BLUE DEVILS!! LETS WIN THE WHOLE TOURNAMENT!!!

I think schools look so much on essay for the ā€˜fitā€™ part assuming some minimum stats are thereā€¦or else one just randomly matches some criteria that is needed to get a distribution of gender, geography, choice of major, etc. It is a mystery to me too.

Forgot to mention: 5:35 rejected hahahha if this means something :)

**Time: 1:16 **

General Comments: Down to Duke or University of Texas. Accepted to Texasā€™ Engineering Honors program with some merit scholarship money. That on in-state public tuition makes full fare at Duke hard to swallow.

ACCEPTED to Trinity on Monday but I just havenā€™t gotten around to posting stats on here. I was (and still am!) absolutely shocked at being accepted, I wasnā€™t expecting it at allā€¦but anyways here are some quick stats:
