The University of Chicago, Harvard College and Stanford University had three scholars each. Two universities had their first Rhodes Scholars in history: Ursinus College in Pennsylvania and the University of California at Irvine. And South Dakota, for the first time, had two scholars.

Congrats to this years winners of Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Gates Cambridge, Mitchell et al!

Roseville, MN and Souix Falls, SD each had two Rhodes Scholars this year. I’ve spent time in both and I’m definitely surprised. But really has there ever been a year where two cities each produce two Rhodes Scholars?

Roseville is right in the middle of the Twin Cities metro area - contiguous with the surrounding communities. So I’d consider this to be more of a case of a major city rather than an isolated small town producing two Rhodes scholars.

I was very impressed with Dartmouth’s Rhode Scholar bio. She sounds like a wonderful person.

Both Prerna and Priya attended Roseville Area High School, which is an inner-ring suburban school district. 13% of kids in the district don’t speak English at home - Hmong, Spanish & Karen (Burmese) are the primary languages. One third of kids in the district get free or reduced price school lunches.
It speaks well for public schools, and particularly the Roseville District, that they are able to educate at a very high level while supporting kids who need a lot of extra assistance.
