Major: English

you guys are adorable. congrats and see you in the fall. beware of sketchy upperclassmen!

from: pasadena/arcadia (CA)

major: bio and fine arts!

Tip: I skipped some of my AP tests b/c you only get elective credit, I figured I could safely skip to, and so forth. I would recommend taking them anyway, because if you do well enough, their benefit is that enough of them (4 or more) will give you an extra semester of status, thus allowing you an earlier registration time and a better chance to get the classes you want. You can get the extra credits through early college classes, too. Good luck to all of you next year!

And to the music major with an emphasis on vocal performance...try out for a cappella ;-)

about the college credits...I took two community college classes, how do I get credits? I sent my transcript when I applied. Need I do more?

Student615- Do you need to apply for the extra semester status, or are you automatically granted it for registration?

Student615
I plan to. How competitive is it to get into a group?

arsenalsweep -- Not positive, as I didn't get credit for CC classes. I think that's plenty, though. My roommate had two credits from CC classes and she was totally surprised to get her registration packet and find out that they'd been counted! I don't know if they only count certain courses, certain grades, or whatever, but I'm sure you could contact the Registrar to find out.

A.S.A.P -- I am assuming that this all works the same at Pomona as it does at Scripps, where I go. It definitely should, and I'm fairly sure it does. You shouldn't have to apply for higher status...you should automatically have it when you have 4 extra credits (four full classes, where one AP or CC counts as 1). You can contact the Registrar to double check on all this.

Squiggle22 -- Woohoo! I've been in the same group since my first semester and it's been one of the very best parts about college. There are currently six groups (one is all male, one is all female). Spring tryouts are pretty competitive because a lot of people come, and some of the groups had enough open spots that they've already auditioned for fall. Competition really varies each semester, but if it doesn't work out first semester, I can't stress enough that you should try again. We've very happily taken people on their third audition, and other times had to miss out on people we knew were awesome. Auditions will probably be the first weekend of the school year, and the groups try to work together to stagger their auditions in the same area so people can "make the rounds," so to speak. Good luck, and message me if you want more info :-)

Pomona only allows incoming students to bring in 2 credits from outside sources. Freshmen registration times is totally random and based on sponsor groups. I'm pretty sure that people do not get extra semester status if they have extra credits when they come in.

dcrono is correct. Regardless of the number of AP credits, course credits, etc., students can apply only two to their Pomona coursework. I recall hearing something along the lines that once a student gets to 32 credits, s/he can graduate. So, I guess the only way one would be able to graduate early is to take extra courses during your time on campus.

I just got my OA assignment-sequoia, not my top choice, but I'm still excited. btw, i'm a new member, hailing from Oak Park, IL (suburb of chicago). Possible neuroscience major, as long as they keep the program gonig, i heard they've been having diffficulties.

I'd love to talk to anyone else who's sequoia-ing.

Welcome to CC, torrig! My older sister-in-law used to live in Oak Park--on S. Clarence. Have fun on your OA trip!
