2010 UC Berkeley Transfer Student: Ask me!

emilsinclair9, were you at cal day? Were you wearing yellow “cal day” shirts?

Lol actually, no, I wasn’t at Cal Day. I went up to Davis for Picnic Day :). Wait, do you know what I look like? I just ask because your question seemed to imply that haha. Btw was that what you were PM-ing me about? I’m sorry my inbox was full. I’m clearing it out right now.

so i just got accepted to uci, but have a main aim of transferring to cal, ucla, or usc for accounting/business/econ. dont get me wrong, uci is a great campus and i love the atmosphere, but ive always longed to go to one of those three. so particularly for cal, how hard is it to get into haas and what do i need to do to make myself competitive and have a legitimate shot to get in? also are there maybe any other alternative majors that can be easier to get into?

emilsinclair9- I was asking if you went to cal day and was one of the people who were doing the psychology presentations in berkeley. Thats all

@ Pino: Ahh I see. I wanted to be one of the speakers, but I didn’t know how to register. I went to Cal Day last year though, so I wanted to go to Davis (my other favorite school :p), and hang out there for the weekend with a friend of mine from back home. Picnic Day…is vastly different from Cal Day, but both are really fun!

And let me know if you get into Cal! Keep me posted, and good luck.

@emilsinclair9- I see this

For UCLA.

Hmmm well, I don’t want to get your hopes up if I am, in fact, wrong. However, judging by the first screenshot, that seems promising. I can’t really ascertain much more though. I heard back from UCLA on April 23rd last year, so you should be hearing back really soon…probably this Friday imo.

emilsinclair9- did you get those screens before UCLA released its decisions last year?

I probably did…they look vaguely familiar, but I don’t remember.

was it hard to take the classes you wanted to? I heard that at community colleges these days its insanely hard to take the classes you want and very often people have to stay 3 years to finish all their classes. Did you experience this too??

I don’t think Willabee is posting anymore, but I can tell you my experience. It was really easy my first semester because the administration saves spots for new transfer students. However, I’m already having trouble picking my classes for next semester :/. I wanted to take Psych of Sleep, but that filled up almost immediately. Instead, I’ll be taking Intro to Logic, Drugs & Behavior, Personality Psych, and Ancient Philosophy << can’t wait for the last one! :D

Anyway, don’t worry about getting classes your first semester; it’s the second one where it gets more difficult.

emilsinclair9-I went to Cal Day just this last saturday, their psych program is good but for my focus which is neuropsychology/psychobiology, they do not have a lot of research concerning those disciplines on campus. They told me that for that type of psych research, they would refer psych majors to UCSF med research center.

Good thing about UCLA and UC Davis is that they have med research centers on campus. My goal is to become a researcher in neuropsychology or psychobiology. Basically get a PhD.

I took the lower division requirements for a biology major at my CC already.

Do I have chance at getting into Berkeley?

I currently go to the University of San Francisco
my accum gpa is 3.92…but ive gotten a 4.0 for the past two semesters, my only B was first semester freshman yr

my major is philosophy and ive completed 2/3 prerequisites…the one i didnt complete wasn’t offered.

a couple extracurricular activities: philosophy club, on a committee in senate last yr, and part of an underclassman honors society.

I know decisions come out in a week, but I’m anxious! How decreased are my chances bc I go to a private 4 yr

Question:
I got accepted last year as a transfer student from ccc with a 3.69 gpa for a legal studies major. However i could not go because i dropped my transferable math class. I applied again for 2011 and now have a 3.74. Do u thinks its almost guaranteed i will get in again? Also do you know what the gpa i need to have for this current and last semester at jc if i get accepted back in or is it as long as i pass my classes that matters??? Thanks

Hey guys,
First of all, a lot of this information has been very helpful. Thanks a lot.
Do any of you know anything about the Film Studies major? Is it impacted? I’d appreciate any help.

Can anyone talk about the social life and making friends as a transfer?! Academics are amazing here so the whole social aspect is the only thing I am worried about…

Great topic ! Continue !!!
