I am a pre-med student and I am planning on doing a major in Biochem and a minor in Biology, i think that this combination isn't too bad because practically all of the requirements overlap for pre-med. If I decided to do study abroad I would probably take a summer term instead of a semester because it takes a lot of planning ahead. If you know that you want to go abroad and you have an idea of what major/minor you want to persue and you are willing to take classes over the summer I would really review a plan with your advisor, a pre-med advisor, and the office that manages study abroad programs so that you can get the most of what you want from Penn. But it is hard to be that sure about everything! Its not impossible and I don't want to discourage you but just be prepared to plan.

I didn't buy the penn directory and I haven't regretted it at all. I don't know of anyone who had one and I never saw one so I can't tell you how good or bad it is. I think with facebook you don't need a lot more.

I have taken 5 classes each semester but that is because of chemistry lab so I had like 4.5 credits for each semester. I think your first semester freshman year you can take between 4-5 credits unless given a very special okay. After that you can go up to 6 without permission. I think that it is reasonable to take 5 courses and it gives you more room to take the things that you enjoy. And t Bio and Chemistry together should be reasonable and I wish that I would have done that in retrospect because now I have to take Biology over a summer and my junior year. But I was weaker in Calculus and it was probably best for me to take that with only one other science. I think that it is harder to take Physics with another science because it is a more demanding class from what I have heard.

A lot of your class planning will also revolve around what your intended major is and how your pre-med and major requirements fit together best, and how your advisor recommends to order your classes.

the only way i knew i was in the program was by an email sent to me by the program's advisor. i had requested a double, and they only had singles available, so the advisor emailed asking if it was okay to be placed in a single. if not, i would have been put back in the lottery. so i took the single in order to ensure myself a room in the quad, basically. but im sure you can tell if you got in based on the location of your dorm - if its in the area specified for the program, id guess youre in.

brittanica jack...thanx a ton for the info...very much appreciated..
