<p>Pennsylvania schools top highest tuition list</p>
<p>PSU, Pitt rank first and second among four-year public schools.</p>

<p>Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh have the nation’s highest in-state tuition rates among four-year public schools, according to a new list from the U.S. Department of Education.</p>
<p>Penn State’s in-state tuition rate of $14,416 at its University Park campus was the highest in the country for the 2009-10 school year. Pittsburgh ranked second at $14,154 for its Pittsburgh campus. Both schools were well above the national average of $6,397, according to the College Affordability and Transparency Lists, which were compiled for the first time and released June 30.</p>
<p>Four of Penn State’s satellite campuses, including Penn State-Berks, tied for sixth-highest with a tuition rate of $12,750. Penn State-Lehigh Valley is tied with four other Penn State campuses for the 15th-most expensive in the country at $12,250. The University of Pittsburgh-Titusville campus ranked highest among two-year public schools at $10,430.</p>
<p>In net cost, which accounts for books, room and board and other costs, and includes possible scholarships, Penn State’s University Park campus ranked sixth at $19,056. Its Altoona campus was seventh at $18,878 and Penn State-Erie was eighth at $18,857. Pittsburgh’s main campus ranked ninth at $18,786 and Penn State-Berks was 10th in the nation at $18,048.</p>
