Best of luck to all you FAFSAing families out there.

We are so happy that we will NOT be filling out the FAFSA ever again!
Now if son will find gainful employment after May graduation, we’ll be REALLY happy.

This is our second year applying…and I know the first year we needed to submit as close to Jan. 1st as possible to ‘get in line’ for the monies. Is this also true every year after that? Or are monies set aside in the virtual world for you since the school knows you will be coming back (so we don’t have to rush the FAFSA application)…any thoughts?

It depends on what sort of aid you are eligible for. Some aid you will get whenever you file. Some federal aid (SEOG, Perkins, and Work Study) is what they call campus based aid. it is very limited and each school is given so much $$$s and once they have awarded those $$$s they can get no more. Last year we filed a couple of weeks later than we had in previous years. My daughter did not get either WS or the SEOG as she had in previous years (same EFC). She got higher loans. I’m don’t know for sure if it was because we filed later (it was not very late - end feb rather than mid feb maybe) or because they use different criteria for awarding to upperclassmen. They don’t really publicize their criteria. But we will be filing in the next week this time round in hopes of at least getting WS.
