I know of a kid who was admitted to, and attended, a top school (which I won’t name) with a single digit percentile on one section of the SSAT. The child had a diagnosed LD but was bright and a strong athlete. The source of my information is the student’s mother.

Maddog you don’t even know what your saying. There are people with below 40%ile on the ssat that got into a HADES school. You can’t just predict that someone won’t get in on your own foolish predictions. -___________-

MD was not insulting anyone. No need to take it personal.

Looks like things got a little heated in here! I actually came across this thread while searching for college notification dates, and as a senior at Groton, it’s interesting to think back to the days of SSATs and lengthy, non-standardized applications. As far as I can see it, every school has certain academic thresholds, but you can definitely get past them if you have something that can fulfill a need they have. For example, I know that the fact that I played an instrument helped my application; they were low on musicians that year. Interviews are, of course, significant, but we shouldn’t underplay the importance of stats. Most of these schools receive at least 1500 applications a year, and with such small admissions staffs, numbers can very much make or break an applicant. At this point, there’s no use worrying–you’ve most likely already been decided on.

does anyone know how to get off of a waitlist?? im freaking out!!

playfulkiss; there’s no way to “get off of a waitlist”. the schools decide when and if they will let students off the waitlist and into their school. typically this happens in mid-april, after the accepted students make their decisions. i understand how you feel, i was waitlisted at 3 schools also, but as far as i know you can’t really do anything to get off it.

aaralyn: did u ever get off of the waitlist for any of the 3 schools?? O.o

Im in a similar shape, but could you share what your grades are like and what other extra stuff you do? Im applying to Andover and Milton. I just got 78% overall rank SSAT, really bummed out. only the math section dragged me down, I would be in the low 80’s otherwise. I think a second try I could get 85%. Really hoping to get in to either.

wow! how were your extracurriculars and teacher comments?
