Architecture admissions are (generally) a different process from the general university admissions. For acceptance to an accredited architecture degree (5-year BArch), you need to be admitted to both. Most architecture programs won’t start reviewing those applications until after the program deadline - usually January. Decisions won’t happen until spring, typically. (At the U. of Oregon, we review the applications throughout February - three people review each file - and make decisions in late Feb. / early March).

Archprof, thanks for the information on your decision timeframe - although she already has some options, my D is anxiously awaiting a decision from UofO arch department :-)

Accepted to Penn State Architecture!

Accepted to daap at cincinnati!!!

Accepted: University of Cincinnati (DAAP), Auburn, LSU
Waiting to hear: University of Texas- Austin, UF, VT

I currently have a child in the Auburn Foundation Unit program - loving it! They began with 28, 3 are not continuing after this past semester and 2 were not retained for Spring - leaving 23 in the Foundation Program.
Summer Option Program (summer AFTER Freshman year) – not sure of the numbers, but usually 100-120 students for 1st summer (6 weeks), they retain around 60 for 2nd summer (6 weeks) and then approximately 30 move on for Sophmore year with the ones that completed Foundation Unit.
SOOOO many students really were not aware of the whole workings of this even though it is all over the CADC web site in various places.
For those of you accepted or applying: [CADC - College of Architecture, Design and Construction](http://www.cadc.auburn.edu/arch/degrees_prog/arch_prog#firstyr) - read about first year admission. You are in Architecure, but it has not been determined which unit you will be in. Some students were surprised when they went to orientation.

Also, for any wishing to see a glimpse of one aspect of the program, make sure to read up on the Rural Studio. They have rec’d a lot of recognition this year because of this program - they have a display at MOMA, a PBS documentary “Citizen Architect” which was wonderful. [“Citizen Architect: Samuel Mockbee and the Spirit of the Rural Studio”](<a href=“http://citizenarchitectfilm.com/]"Citizen”>http://citizenarchitectfilm.com/)

I have to say I have had moments I have wondered why I would even let my child major in Architecture - not because of concern about a job in the future, but more for their sanity because of the demands. However, I can see what she has already gotten out of the program which I am not sure happens at every school. Their final project was a group project - all 28 working together and amazing results that came out of it. They had times I am sure they could not stand each other, but the respect they gained for each other cannot be duplicated in any other manner. They learned to work with each other vs. some programs where they compete against each other.

If anyone has questions, wants more info or would even like info on this final project which was tied in with the South’s Best Robotics Regional Finals please feel free to private message me. The info she has passed on is too much to put on here!

mw4hsk, thanks for all the information. I was accepted to Auburn and when I went to visit the architecture school they told me about the Foundation Unit and said something about having an extra form to fill out after your acceptance. What did your daughter have to do to get into the Foundation Unit? Did she find out she was in it before attending Auburn? I’m only interested in Auburn if I can get into the Foundation Unit… to risky otherwise.

I’m also confused about acceptance to the Foundation program. The letter I got from CADC said I had been accepted for the Fall of 2011, which would be my entering semester, does that mean I’m in? When I visited my guide did not say anything about the extra information sheet, just the better applicants go into Foundation

Yes, our daughter knew before she decided to attend Auburn. It was very, very late though and down to the end (about April 26th). She had already said she was attending Auburn and paid the deposit just as a means of putting in an application for housing (they do not have enough for all freshman and you cannot put down a housing deposit which is refundable for housing until you pay acceptance deposit which is non-refundable).
If you read on their site it explains how the Foundation Unit is selected. To first be considered you have to have a certain SAT, GPA, and then fill out another form which will be mailed to you later (last year it was Feb) if you have those stats. They are looking for students that have a strong academic background and hopefully AP Credit. If you call they can explain everything further and give you dates etc.
Our daughter was also reluctant to attend if she was not in Foundation. She had other schools that have great architecture programs, but she really loved Auburn for a lot of reasons. We stressed to her that she needed to choose a school which she would be happy attending even if she did not stay in architecture.

I just noticed that you said you got a letter from CADC saying you were accepted. Was this from Auburn Admissions or the Architecture school? Last year the acceptance letter was from Auburn Admissions saying she was accepted into CADC for Fall 2010, but it was not from CADC. The students which attend Summer Option are also in CADC and begin in Fall 2010 - they take one ARCH class in the Fall (Careers in Arch). You may want to call and ask - maybe they have changed things.

The letter I got saying I was accepted into architecture was from CADC, I got that letter this week, but heard from regular admissions about 2 months ago. I’ll call after they reopen January 3rd and find out

EDIT: Just looked at the site, I believe this policy has been changed based on what I read. http://www.cadc.auburn.edu/arch/degrees_prog/arch_prog
