2011 Fall admissions - Dean's Sholar Award

Today I recd a letter of this award for $10K ($2500 per yr). I did not expect this and happy. If anyone else recd this, does the amt varies by student who got ? And I applied for Meyerhoff too. If I get it, can I use both ?

(I am instate and my GPA is 3.45 SAT cr580/m730/w600 - applied for computer engg and got admitted in EA)

I got the exact same amount with a 3.2uw/ 3.6w 1900 sat. I think it said on there that you can only get one scholarship from them but you choose which one.

You can only pick one. My brother got the 15k general one and Meyerhoff and could not take both (which would be way more than admission, anyways.)

Gemini116

Is yr brother instate ? Did he get 15K. wow. what are his scores ?

Got a 5 k per year scholarship(instate)
Stats: 2080 SAT
4.0 unweighted GPA and 4.3 weighted

He applied two years instate. He got a 34 on the ACT and had 8 or 9 APs (do not really remember) getting 4s and 5s on all of them. He got two Bs, one freshman year and one sophomore year.

I got a 12k/year scholarship with a 2180 SAT / 1500 Crit/Math, 3.9 unweighted GPA, 5.6 weighted (on 6.0 scale in Baltimore County) with 9 APs. When I talked to Hrabowski, he said that scholarships in general were going down / being a little more selective than previous years due to the economic times, and in turn more instate people going there.

I’ll preface with this by saying I’m a Meyerhoff Scholar at UMBC, so I hope to see you at Selection Weekend!

While Gemini116 is correct about scholarships declining due to the economic climate in Maryland, UMBC still manages to be one of the best value schools in the state (and consistently ranks as a best-value college in the nation). What you aren’t able to receive in school scholarships will quickly be made up for in how much less debt you will have upon graduation compared to your friends at other universities. And don’t forget to apply to as many outside sources of funding as possible! While you can only accept one UMBC scholarship, you can rack up as many outside scholarships as you’re able.

If you’re interested about my stats (I got 15K from UMBC and 15K from Meyerhoff) as a reference:

2190 SAT (superscored, 670CR 740M 780WR)
3.6UWGPA, 3.99WGPA
Top 10% of my class (~450 people)
NHS, Tri-M, SHS, Eagle Scout

Best of luck!

Got 17k/year for a Centennial or something, unfortunately OOS so still extremely expensive
34 ACT, 3.74 UW

has anyone heard if they got the Meyerhoff Scholarship yet. We are awaiting a decision until we decide between UMBC & Universiity of Delaware for chemical engineering.

Meyerhoff Envelope came today!!!

Meyerhoff award arrived today!
