Just wanted to see what the majority of transfers were planning on doing for housing next fall. On-campus, off-campus?

I'm transferring to the College of Communications (Journalism) from Northeastern University in Boston so I'm not sure of all the options in regards to housing.

Hello, when did you get accepted? I am desperately hoping to get in, and if I do I will be staying on campus. I think it will prove to be a much better experience. I used to live in Austin, and personally, there are too many things that can distract from schoolwork. It seems like living on campus would allow me to focus on school completely.

I meant that I applied for housing in late October. Was that early enough to get on-campus housing? I’ve heard it can get really difficult as a transfer to get on-campus housing…

CAP student probably living off campus with some friends, but I sent in my $50 housing app back in November just in case I want to live on campus

UT really does not have enough on campus dorms but the good thing is that there are other options if you don’t get a room in an on campus dorm, including the private dorms (look at Castilian, University Towers, and Dobie) and the coops. (It is hard to find furnished apartments in Austin.)

My main concern is that I don’t want to be rooming with some freshman, and I couldn’t find anywhere on the UT housing site that you would be guaranteed to live with or near other transfers.

The only way to guarantee that you won’t be living with a freshman is to select a roommate. Use the Roommate Profiler to find a match and then you’ll each update your housing application.

Its never too late to apply for on-campus housing so definitely go for it! I do also plan on wanting to live off-campus for the Fall '11 - Spring '11 , and would rather live with other transfer students as well. If anyone else going to be setting something up for off-campus dorming, let me know, would like to join ya =D

For you all living off-campus, which apartments are you looking to stay at? There are so many apts around UT, I want to be within walking distance to the College of Natural Sciences but it’s hard finding apartments that are safe/not too noisy. :/

@babycakin, thanks for letting me know! I think there should be a facebook group for all incoming transfers - it will be easier for people to talk about housing, orientation and such. It’ll also give us the opportunity to make friends with other transfers before fall term starts!

@genrawks2, I just did a quick search and “The Block” on 25th doesn’t seem too bad… I might actually be staying there.

I’ve reserved a room at the Super Co-op (collegehouses.coop) in West Campus. I think it’s the perfect place for me since it comes furnished, is walking distance to McCombs, includes 17 meals/week and is super affordable considering the prime location. I have to commit to about 4 hours of “labor” a week, but that’s not a problem. I have a feeling living there is going to be quite an experience though. If you’re interested, there are still some double/shared rooms available at their co-ops that are even more affordable.
