hehehehe...

Those were newly-minted ensigns, not Mids. Unusual, at least based on my recollection. The only officers I remember seeing that day were the docs and nurses doing eye screenings and such.

Where did the buses take them?

The buses take them from alumni to bancroft.

You're kidding, right?

Good grief. Why not just walk them there? They can even go through the lab decks to keep them indoors and out of sight.

Oh, well. I guess they have their reasons. I wish we'd gotten buses!

Zaph, definitely TAD ENS.

Did they have black/red flags to mark the temp. back in your day?

thermometers hadn't been invented yet...

LOL. You're thinking GreatAmerican and USNA69. ;)

I don't remember flag colors, but on days when the WBGT temperature was over X degrees, some things like chopping or whatnot were suspended and flags were put out.

Man, Annapolis in the summer is simply brutal. Yeesh! :(

WBGT was Wet Bulb Globe Temperature. Read all about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wet_Bulb_Globe_Temperature

So they did have them....essentially the same system.
Yes WBGT

Oh, yeah.

I remember standing MOD watch and having to announce the WBGT temperature when it was updated.

"HOTEL COMPANY! ATTENTION TO ANNOUNCEMENTS! THE WBGT......"

Ah..... the memories....

Do they have the A/C in the Hall turned on during Plebe Summer? It makes logical sense that they would, but since when has Navy been logical?

Yes, it's on during Plebe Summer, but they still sweat copiously.

They had an over abundance of ensigns there awaiting to report to their first assignments. They are there TDY to assist, since some of them have report dates of October and such. They were very nice to us.

Wanted to share with you guys how "Glitterhairdye's" I-Day went...

Her report time was 9:15.. last group to go through. They did not have a name tag for her, No Ladies Sz 10 army boots, out of sports bras and swimsuit in the size she needed, and then when she got to Bancroft they had her in a Boys room. She only got to go to the bathroom once all day, she never got any food. At 6:15, after that awesome ceremony, she greeted me and her grandmother and aunt with the biggest smile and hug I have ever had. She had been transformed into a plebe and had Loved every minute of it. After our time together she could not get in formation fast enough and I would swear that when 6th Platoon yelled "6" "6" "6" we could hear her above the rest of the crowd! Then they marched away and I have never been more proud or felt more patriotic.

I promise all of you parents, mids and alumni that we have shared this journey with the past months that Lola will make you all proud and only do her best! :)

P.S. If anybody want to see Kodak Gallery of her adventure this past week (more importantly.. THE HAIRCUT!!) send me a message and I will send a the link.

Hey! My son's Plebe Summer roommate is the Firstie explaining Reef Points in the video!

Yes, M2L, I'd like the link.

Atrmom- Cool! How do we get to see the video, or is that the one they showed to the plebelets?

NP-it's the same link as the one you found yourself on.

Nursey.. Send me the link of your interview please. :)
