2011 January SAT: Writing Section

Really? I might have chose something else. What were the other choices?
I’m pretty sure If i were given the opportunity. Not Were I given …

Do u guys remember question on section 10?
It was like … Themes predominantly in poetry, ________ blah blah

What was the answer to the question about the difference between the insects? There was a difference in their feeding habits and size i think.

@violinplayer: I believe it was the rate at which they matured, however, that was a reading experimental section.

hey i don’t know if these have been discussed:

the coffee tasted bitterly and smells burned…what was wrong? bitterly sounds wrong but so does burned, i think it should be bitter and burnt

the one about indonesian music ensembles consist of groups of musical instruments built to be played together…i said no error?

first is bitterly

partyallthetime, I think it should have been bitter instead of bitterly because it’s describing how the coffee tasted, so it’s an adjective and not an adverb…see rover112’s post a few back. and I’m glad to hear that other people put “Interest in reviving” instead of “Interest to revive” on that Olympics question!

rover112, I said it was correct as well. All the others sounded awkward.

how much do you think a 10 on the essay and 2 wrong on the MC will get me. the writing wasnt extremely easy or extremely hard so im guessing its gonna be a normal curve.

about the olympics question
everyone is saying that “interested to revive” is idiomatically incorrect, and i agree
but in the same sentence it said “…with such sports like bla bla bla”
it should have been “wish such sports AS bla bla bla”

@party send up the ambiguity to collegeboard. maybe we’ll get a better curve because of it.

^ I was thinking about e-mailing collegeboard about that coffee question as well. There obviously can’t be two errors in one sentence. (Bitterly —> Bitter and Burned —> Burnt)

what is -1 with a 10 essay?
and what essay do you have to get to get an 800 with -0?

@bio1995
I think I may do the same. The sentence clearly possessed two errors.

I thought burnt was british english like learnt or learned. Learnt is often incorrect in U.S classrooms.

a quick dictionary search tells you that they are different spellings but both correct. And bitterly was OBVIOUSLY wrong. It should have been an ajective.

So are we in agreement that “interest to revive” is the definite error in this sentence? I don’t actually recall there being the phrase “with such sports like” – I only remember something about archaeologists recovering ruins, etc.

yes…interested takes a gerund

which was the one for “has decreased” or “Decreased”

I put “has decreased.”

What did you all put for the very last question in the shortest section? I’m afraid I cannot quite remember the actual question. Also, did anyone receive a prompt discussing learning?

What could an 11 essay with -3-5 be?
