2011 January SAT: Writing Section

Writing curves are always really good. Last year my brother got 2 wrong and an 11 on the essay and got an 800.

did you guys put “never before have/had been” or “never before having been”

never before having been

No its Never had they been

what about something like “campaigned about increase…” I thought it should’ve been campaigned to increase

I thought it was “having been” because it was like “Never had they been in such a big museum, they …” so I thought having been connects the fragments

for the essay did you have to CONTRAST practical and idealist…i just talked about idealistic…shoot.

I’m pretty sure you could just talk about idealistic. I don’t think SAT essays have to be that logical haha. Seriously, 25 minutes is not a lot of time…

It’s having been. It connects the sentences.

facepalm

And for that “had they been” and “having been” question, I’d say it’s “having been” based on what I’ve read. If you put “had they been,” you’d need a semicolon to connect the 2 independent clauses.

I mean not really contrast, but like discuss practical? like i just said the idealistic is more valuable?

@kebalken

Its an inverted sentence structure.

haha i just talked about how idealist is always bad and examples of that

i know! i was in panic mode trying to finish that thing.

So you ONLY talked about the side you supported?

You need a -ing to connect to independent clauses without a conjunction, except for some cases. in this case had they been doesn’t work.

did you guys put that “campaigned about increase the awareness blah blah” was right?

and its “provide resources TO students and photographers” not provides resources FOR them right?

Never had they been in a museum, they had no idea what to do around there.

Something like that.

Anyone know the answer to the “little or no” harmful effect of watching TV (videogames)? People I know have either put that or No Error.

@violinplayer - yeah that sentence makes no grammatical sense. think of it like" they had no idea what to do, never having been in a museum. "
