2011 Official Biosciences Interviews and Results

I hope that’s the case for this year, because I just got that email too.

laurend,
do you mind linking to the posts? i’ve been so stressed over grad school that i haven’t even paid any attention to my finals lolz…

@gtugce: last friday, I was invited to interview with BCMB (biochem, cell and molecular biology) in the school of medicine at hopkins.

@jkp789: I applied to the division of medical sciences at UChicago for genetics and for molecular biology.

My first choice is hopkins, but I am eager to hear back from Princeton in particular.
I applied to molecular cell biology, genetics and development at Yale BBS, so perhaps the tracks send out notifications at different times.

stressful!

@jkp789: my materials for Uchicago were due on 12/1. I heard back super fast.
And also it was the program in molecular bioscienes (not the division of biomedical sciences)–human genetics and molecular biology.

@BMC2011: thanks a lot for your quick reply!

AHH apps…

@bombardior

Sorry for anyone that caught that! Somehow I read that as please post your stats…sheesh…

Anyway I do not know how to do that but the first mention is on page 7 of the 2010 biosciences page. Here is the URL:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/graduate-school/794776-2010-official-biosciences-interviews-results-7.html?highlight=biosciences</a></p>

edit—oo I guess its that easy!

I hope they dont ask for mid-year reports. If they do, I am going to blame them for all of my bad grades this semester.

laurend
thank you very much! looks like there may be hope after all! im an international applicant so i guess i will hear later according to last year’s post.

I got the WashU email too, but it’s probably best not to get too excited yet. If you look at last years forum closer, you’ll find these posts:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/graduate-school/794776-2010-official-biosciences-interviews-results-17.html#post1063731432</a></p>

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/graduate-school/794776-2010-official-biosciences-interviews-results-18.html#post1063733251</a></p>

So don’t give up hope for those who didn’t get the e-mail! And also for those who did get the email, it doesn’t mean we’re necessarily first pick.

Just combed through the 2010 thread for approximate interview invite mailing/call dates for my schools. In case you have any overlap/are interested:

UCLA ACCESS ~ Dec 18th, Jan 18th (1st/2nd round?)
GSK ~ Dec 21st
SUNY Stonybrook ~ Jan 1st
MIT Biology ~ Jan 6th
Scripps (TSRI) ~ Jan 12th

I’d hoped this would calm me down a little, but I don’t think it worked…

Received an invite to interview from UPenn today via email

I applied to the Biomedical Graduate Studies Program, concentration in Immunology.

@Orion8. What were you stats like?
I also applied to UPenn, Cancer Bio concentration.
Looks like a great program.

UNC Chapel Hill interview by phone. Biochemistry and Biophysics focus.

Everyone who is going to UNC to interview, what weekend are you going? I was invited for the first weekend, january 27th.

Feb 3 for me

My advisor was reading Harvard Program in Neuroscience applications today. The admissions committee is meeting tomorrow, although I’m not sure if there are further meetings planned or if they will notify applicants right away.

Is it true that some schools dont like to admit students who earned their undergraduate degree from the same school?

What do you guys think?

Interview at Wisconsin Madison for Genetics via phone call. I was told that interview weekends are the first 3 weeks of February and the committee just met so they will likely be making some offers now, but also after the New Year. Also, it seems like they really limit the numbers prior to the interviews-- they call the weekend less of an interview and more of a ‘get to know us/recruitment’ weekend, which is definitely a super nice relief!! Seems like my schools are going to be competing for weekends in February, hopefully some will be more flexible in offering January or March!!

On that note, is it worth it to contact other schools (2-3) at the very top of my list asking when offers will be made and when interviews will be conducted so I know if I should be saving certain weekends or waiting a bit longer to get back to other schools?

@ Neuroblast, I’ve never heard of that, but I know it is generally looked down upon going to grad school at the same school as undergrad. Maybe schools look to limit this to preserve their reputation/ reputation of their grad students upon graduation.

Thanks and congrats kurplunk18! Madison is an awesome place! Best of luck!

Thanks neuroblast! Funny, we just had our first real snow in DC today and I had to chuckle to myself as I got a call from Madison thinking how much I did NOT like cleaning up my car and dealing with the snow today… Snow aside, Madison is amazing so I’m pumped :)
