Umm… just looked at the schedule! Holy crap! Does this thing really go from 8:30-10:30?? I am not staying at the provided housing, do y’all think I really need to be there for all of that? Does anyone know of who I can get a hold of to find out what parts of this schedule are required/recommended?

rgalvanatx were you able to find out if you needed to stay?

Have you guys looked at the fact sheet yet?

"Do I need to stay through the entire orientation program?
Yes. There are a number of programs and activities that are essential to your success as an incoming
student, and will assist you in registering for classes. You will check out on Day 2 after you have
registered for your fall classes.

Where will I check in?
You are required to check in on Day 1 between 9:30–10:30 a.m. Please plan to arrive early. When you
arrive at the Brazos Garage (BRG), look for signs and Orientation Advisors to direct you to Orientee
Check-In. All students must check in at Jester Center (JES) (see map for location at
[Main Campus - Perry-Castaeda Library Area | The University of Texas at Austin](http://www.utexas.edu/maps/main/areas/pcl.html)).

When do I check out?
After registration on Day 2, check out will end no later than 3

I plan on arriving at 9 AM, I might stay for the comedy show that runs 9:00-10:30, and then the next day I expect to leave around 2.

@Galvana oh wow, getting a house near the campus would defintely be ideal =D. Ya, its mandatory to stay for the whole orientation from what I was told. Everyone might as well go to the 23-24th orientation since seems like the whole board is going haha =D

I’m going on the 23/24 too
Question about the Wing Meeting. What exactly is that? Anyone know?
I don’t know about ya’ll but i really hope it has something to do with chicken wings!
I’m kidding guys.
I shouldn’t type when i’m hungry.

@hellothere you so silly =P

Anybody else just excited Cant wait to be actually go to school at UT. I have been working towards this for the last 10 years I worked fulltime and went to school full time for 8 years. I cant believe I finally get to be a longhorn :)

I am just as excited too! I thought that I would never get to where I am today. It feels so great to accomplish this huge goal of mine, and it is awesome to see so many on here doing the same thing. I can not wait for this semester to be over because I can not seem to concentrate on my school work… Come on August! :)

Are we allowed to bring a guest to the orientation? I don’t want to be alone, I don’t know anyone :l

genrawks, I bet a lot of people won’t know anyone! That’s one of the purposes of orientation, to meet other students. I wouldn’t worry about it! My son is from Maine, and he did just fine at orientation last summer.

Im sure you can genrawks, alot of people will be underage freshman who will probably will be traveling with a parent. My husbands going with me. :)

I think my sister is going to come with me, though I have a feeling she’s going to bring a few of her friends and have a good time in Austin while I’m meeting with advisors and stuff…

Nice, so its a win win for all :)

I guess that means I am just going to go for the whole thing then! :)

Bump. Signed up and paid for June 23-24 orientation. Staying in the dorms too. Thankfully, my friend is also transferring from Arkansas so I won’t be totally alone.

Going to sign my lease at my apartment too here in a few days.

Anyone else going to be living off campus? Has anyone looked at apts? Just wondering if anyone found any good deals.

There is a separate orientation for incoming freshman. So, there will not be any high school kids at transfer orientations. I was going to sign up for the june23-24 orientation but unfortunately it closed TODAY. Just my luck. So I’ll be attending the jun30-jul1 orientation.

cherrybomb82: If you want cheap cheap apartments, look at places on riverside (this area is a bit far and ghetto but it’s where I will be living). If you want to live close to campus, look at places in West Campus (jefferson 26, dobie, the towers, jefferson west). Just a side note, West campus is also where all the frat houses are, so expect lots of parties and noise at night if you live in this area.

There’s a lot of neighborhoods we’ve been looking into. Hyde Park, North Loop, CherryWood, Allandale, Rosedale, Old Enfield, Clarksville. Basically anywhere north of the river, south of 183, and reasonably close to campus. There are just way too many options so we’re going to end up using either greenlight locating or austin apartment specialists as they have the best online reviews from what I’ve seen.

Thanks for the tips, we ended up visiting apartments in far west area.
