2011 RSI Discussion

900 US applicants and I think that alternates are supposed to be notified mid-May (after decisions made about Olympiads, etc)

any update? please post if you receive notice, thanks.

I think the alternate letters indicate a date of possible notifications. I am not aware of anyone who will not be attending, but it’s possible. Good luck to those waiting!

Well, I was notified by my mentor today. I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing, but have a pretty good guess. I can’t wait !

Congratulations, SMITten and all of you who have been accepted! Also, for those of you who did not, I wish you all the best in your science/math pursuits–you have a lot of talent to share. Continue with your pursuits in science and math, and make your other summer options incredible experiences! We, as a society, need to do more to encourage bright and dedicated students like you. I wish I had the financial resources to create more programs out there like RSI so more talented students could be matched into the coveted research positions.

This is my first post–so I hope I’m doing this correctly.

My son (S) will apply to RSI in the future, and we learned from reading the posts that it is extremely challenging to be accepted. S will definitely have backup summer options. S has a few individual awards in math and science as well as near perfect standardized scores, APs. EC and rec will be very strong.

Please give advice for what you think helped you get accepted (unique research, ec, incredible essay?).

Thank you!–if I posted in the wrong thread, please redirect. Many thanks!

It’s important to realize that most of the RSI applicants are “qualified”. So I think the bottom line is what makes you (your child) individually unique? What does that person have to offer a program that another person doesn’t have? This comes through with essays and recommendations. The rest of the stats and experiences are to some extent “assumed” because not many people apply to RSI without them.

Thank you, sMITten. Have a great time at RSI! Best wishes to all!

Boston is awesome! I’ll be at Simmons soon.

Wow, congrats!

Could some rickoids or possibly even some that are attending RSI this year chance me? :O
