hey guys what are some fields for this.
Biochem is not one?

@momo899
I thought that they wanted a 220 at least on the PSAT?

Alright, some very quick questions (:

1) Does the magnitude of your PSAT score >220 count? I’m thinking that it does, but only to a limited extent. Can some rickoids tell me exactly how much? For example, assuming two juniors have the same credentials but one got a 225 while the other got a 230, how much of an advantage would the latter have?

2) How much does rank count?

3) This pertains slightly to #2. Some of my friends want to go to RSI, but their GPA is not a 4.0; however, their core GPA (their GPA including only academic classes) is a 4.0. Which one do the people at RSI pay more attention to?

4) How many people apply (approximately)?

5) For the average junior that goes to RSI, what is his/her highest math and science class?

Okay thanks so much!

Also, do you have to rewrite the question when you’re typing up the essay responses?

And my school is not cooperating >_< they refuse to put my recent SATs, PSAT, and subject test scores on my transcript. They won’t even update it until a week from today (which is cutting it real close with the RSI deadline). What can/should I do to make sure I can justify to RSI that the scores I got were the ones that I earned (if that makes any sense at all)?

Good luck to everyone applying!

hmmm i just found out my school didn’t put my test scores on my transcripts either… will copies of the paper report from the College Board suffice?

Wait, does our school have to send our transcript? Do they have to send anything? Or are we just getting our transcript from them?

does AP = college?

i think so. i saw some past applications before and they put AP in the same category as college. i just marked college if it was AP so yeah.

i e-mailed before and they said you can either attach your official transcript to your application or your school can send it separately.

how are essays coming for you guys? i can almost memorize mine backwards now >__<

my guidance counselor said that the college board says it is illegal (copyright infringement) for the school to send official copies of my test scores (PSAT/SAT2). how are you guys sending official copies?

hahahah i haven’t even started the essays yet… do they take long?
for me:
PSAT: 80 CR, 80 M, 79 W
SAT: 660 CR, 800 M, 800 W
yeahhhh um i was really sick on SAT day and had food poisoning so i’m NOT sending my SATs
can people list some fields and subfields?
so far I can only think of:
Biology molecular biochemistry
Biology cellular something?
Biology ecology
Biology DNA biochemistry
Chemistry biochemistry

help??

btw i got official copies of PSATs and SATIIs from school, i’m sure its not illegal

For math, biology, chemistry, and physics, here are some possible subfields; some are broad (like combinatorics), some are narrow (like supersymmetry):
Math (my top choice):
representation theory
algebraic geometry
combinatorics
algebraic number theory

Physics (my second choice):
Gauge theory
Continuum mechanics
Twistor theory
Supersymmetry
Solid-state physics
Experimental high-energy physics
Astrophysics

Biology (in addition to yours):
biophysics
evolutionary biology
ornithology (study of birds)
entomology (study of insects - people have done this before)
mathematical/computational biology
bioinformatics

By the way, essays take a while, and they are the most important component even for those with a 239 PSAT score.

“lolz i have like 3500 words total hehehee. i write a lot =P i don’t know how to express interest/passion and be concise at the same time, so conciseness goes first. my longest answers were #2 (almost 1 page) and #5 (like 3/4 page)”

I assume you are talking about “#3” and #5? #2 is just a listing of top fields/subfields, and #5 is about math/sci EC’s.

can I finish them in a day though? i write pretty well, but do they look for personal? or emotional? or factual?
this program has a 5% acceptance… what did past acceptees write that you think made you guys stand out… examples?

I’m mailing an unofficial copy of my transcript along with copies of my student score reports (that I have at home) in my application, but I’m also having my school mail RSI an official transcript (which I believe has all of my test scores on it, but, for some odd reason, doesn’t have my most recently taken PSAT score) along with copies of official score reports.

what’s the difference between unofficial and official?

Hey,
If our school attaches the official transcript in a sealed envelope with the application, do we still need an unofficial transcript?
I really don’t want to get my application thrown out on a technicality after spending like 10-15 hours polishing my essays.
Thanks!

Quick question: what is RSI’s email address for general questions and/or application updates?

'Quick question: what is RSI’s email address for general questions and/or application updates?"
I believe that maite@cee.org/email is the source for questions…but I may be wrong.
