The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation
2011 Sloan Fellows

Each year since 1955 the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has awarded fellowship grants to the brightest young scientific researchers across the country. This is one of the oldest and most prestigious of scientific fellowships.

"These awards are intended to enhance the careers of the very best young faculty members in specified fields of science." This year a total of 118 fellowships were awarded in seven fields: chemistry, computational and evolutionary molecular biology, computer science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, and physics.

MIT with its heavy focus on the sciences and Berkeley with its excellence in many fields including the sciences are the two universities that have had the most impressive showings over the years.

Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and the U. of Chicago are just behind the leaders while Columbia and UCLA come in next.
