2011 Texas PSAT - Scores & Percentiles

Looking for some info from fellow Texans. On your 2011 PSAT, what was your score and what was your percentile for Texas? 216 is in the 99th percentile. Trying to determine the lowest score that still falls into 99th percentile in Texas (the national percentiles are readily available).

Thanks in advance!

While you are collecting data remember that the lowest 99th percentile score for your state is not the same as the NMSF cutoff score.

Correct, in Texas it’s historically the top .75%. But, knowing where the 99th percentile starts and comparing it to historical data would be interesting. Obviously the real answer will not come until late August…

College Board releases state level PSAT reports each year. They break things down by score ranges and subject not by total percentile but it can still give you an idea of where your states scores are trending especially because they have an archive of these reports going back to 2000. The 2011 reports aren’t up yet, but they’ll be located at: [College-Bound Juniors 2010 - PSAT/NMSQT](SAT Suite of Assessments – Reports | College Board)

I’m a semifinalist in Texas and I got a packet that has a breakdown of how many students received each score.

The lowest score a person could receive and still be in the 99th percentile is a 213. That’s because there are 1,985 students who received that score or higher out of 199,247 students who took the test in Texas.

If you go down to a score of 212 (2,155 students), then that is over 1% of the top scores. I hope this helps!

One more note … the cutoff score in Texas was 219 for the 2012 competition, which was much higher than it normally is. People who made that cut are in the top 0.616% of scores.

Thanks 2baylor, that helps. From what I’ve heard so far, the 99th percentile in TX this year will be at least 3-4 pts below 213, which gives hope that the cutoff may drop a few points off last years spike of 219. We’ll see… Still hoping for more input from October 2011 test takers in TX

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that scores of the top 1.5 percent of students (3,000) are included in the top one percentile, due to rounding up.

I got a 212 and it says I’m 99 %. Though obviously for Texas, that’d be pretty low to make semifinalist.

Good point Perazziman, I hadn’t considered that.

Thanks for sharing, Unseen! TX cutoff historically has been approx top .07% in TX, so curious to see what the lowest score that still falls in 99% in TX. 212 is a great score though!
