WHERE: BU/GWU/Macalester/American/Tufts (reach)

WHY: Current college doesn’t offer my major. Want to transfer ASAP so I don’t waste $$$/time studying something I don’t want to major in (Economics)

GOALS: as of now just to major in geography.

CHANCES?: i’m at a loss. i know people that have gotten in with a 2.9 and a 3.6 in HS. why i was rejected, i do not know, so i’m really lost but i’m moving on.

-I will be applying to Northwestern and the University of Chicago this year. If I don’t get accepted for the fall of 2011, I will apply to a few more schools for the fall of 2012 (Vanderbilt, Tufts, NU and UChicago again).
-I’d like to transfer to NU because they offer me the ability to earn my bachelor’s and master’s in econ in 4 years, something my current institution cannot do. I’m also looking for a lower student:faculty ratio, since my current institution’s is a bit high for my liking. I don’t know much about the others except for the fact that they all have top econ programs.
-Eventually, I’d like to obtain my MBA from a top business school. Down the road, I’m considering getting my PHD, giving me the opportunity to teach at the collegiate level.
-At this point, I feel that my chances are about 50/50 for both NU and UChicago. I was ranked in the top 6% of my high school class with a 3.94 UW GPA. To go along with that, I was awarded an academic letter for each of my four years of high school while also graduating as an “Arizona Academic Scholar”. What worries me the most is my ACT score, a 29 composite In regards to ECs, I had 2 jobs during high school, volunteered for Phoenix Children’s Hospital and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, and played football my freshman and sophomore years. I’m currently in ACSSM (Assyrian-Chaldean-Syriac Student Movement), econ club, and will be in the accounting club as well as the honors student government.

–I would pass out on the ground and cry tears of joy if I opened my mailbox to find a USC acceptance packet in there (heck I’d even take a spring grades request). But I certainly wouldn’t mind if I found a Pepperdine, University of San Diego, or Howard University acceptance packet either. Those are my main four right now. I may add a safety or two in the mix just for good measure.

–My world basically fell apart last year. Applying to colleges was a huge strain on me. I made a lot of big mistakes, and I ended up with a stack of rejection, one acceptance, no financial aid, and no housing. I didn’t get the scholarship I was banking on and it really shook up my family. I had to go to our local community college, and I felt like the world’s biggest failure. A few months and a lot of tears later I accepted where I was in my life. I like to think of transferring as my do over. It’s my chance to make things right. In my mind, community college is just a minor setback for a major comeback.

–I’m looking to study either communications or psychology. I intend to pursue a career as a lawyer.

–Seeing as I’m looking to transfer after one year of college, I know I’m going to have to fight harder. I don’t have as many units or grades to prove myself. I know the scales aren’t in my favor right now for USC, but I’m willing to do anything it takes. I did fairly decent in high school (3.65 gpa, 2030 SAT, 31 ACT, AP Scholar with Honors, Varsity Cheer Captain, and a whole slew of awards for cheerleading) but I definitely could have done better. For now I’m already laying out plans for a 4.0 this fall, killer essays, and stellar recommendations. Fingers crossed that this time next year I’ll be headed for my dream school

“In my mind, community college is just a minor setback for a major comeback.”

probably the BEST thing i’ve ever heard.

Where do you want to transfer to
Columbia (DREAM SCHOOL!), Harvard, Yale, Dartmouth, Princeton, UPenn, Brown (can anyone see a pattern here?)
(I’m at Tufts now)
*****

Why you want to transfer
want to push myself into the most challenging academic environment, open up a lot of job opps, network, and be around more indian people such as myself…unfortunately being asian means my chances are even lower than low ;(
and yes, i do care about status. for some stupid reason half the people i talk to don’t know what tufts is.
*****

Desired major/goals (med, law, grad school and such)
i like almost every subject, i’m going to take 4-5 classes first semester in varying subjects and see what i like most (prob. creative writing, calc 3, econ 1, cognitive psych, design foundation) and be in lots of ECs related to education and dance!
i guess right now, my dream would be to get my MBA or go to Columbia Teachers College and then open a charter school!
*****

What do you think your chances are (and some stats if you’re comfortable)
pretty good to start, but i need to be more “standout” (if anyone has tips, i would REALLY appreciate those…)
SAT: 2330 (800W/790CR/740M)
ACT: 34 (35M/34W/34R/33Sci)
GPA: 95.667 / 3.83 UW
Rank: 8/335 (public school)
National Merit Scholar (218 PSAT)
AP’s: 7 5’s and 2 4’s (8 tests total; one of the 4’s is my AB subscore on the BC Calc exam)
EC’s: Dance (indian, ballet, tap, jazz, modern) / Education (teaching and starting my own workshop in elem school) / Leadership (secretary of sr. class, started world culture club and had a fundraiser- raised only $250, was student rep in administrative committees for school) and more, but those are main ones.

I’m going to be a freshman this fall and really want to transfer but I have awful SAT scores (1590/2400 :() and average ACT scores. Pending that I do very well this coming year, will I be able to transfer to a top 50 school without my bad scores haunting me or should I take them again.

1) Where: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, Gatech, UIUC, Stanford, Cornell, Brown
2) Why: Great math program, I’m at a CC, and Dream of Californication (if it’s at cali)
3) Major: Math
4) Chances: 15-20%
College GPA: 4.0
Essay: substantial but I’m not that great of a writer
ECs: Math Club President, Math Tutoring

USC, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Santa Clara as a sophomore

I currently live in Texas and will attend Baylor University in the fall as a Freshman, but my heart has and always will belong in California (I moved to Texas at the beginning of HS). I did not apply to some of these schools because I didn’t think I would be able to afford any of it, or I would not be able to get in (Pepperdine and USC)

Biochemistry with a desire to pursue pharmacy

Chances: Fairly low I think
Since I am transferring as a sophomore, I hear they look more at your high school stats which were less than spectacular.
GPA: 4.1
SAT: 2130 (630 CR, 760 M, 740 W)
SAT II: 680 M level II, 630 CR
EC’s: A few clubs and National Honor Society, under 100 hours of community service
Rank: (113/728) LOW! I went to a really competitive public school
AP: 4 Macro, 4 Psychology, 5 Stats

Jewish/Hispanic male Sophomore, first generation college student with 36 credits and a 3.67 gpa (rising trend). I am taking 15 credits in the fall and another 15 in the spring. I am going to be applying to Peabody wanting to go into special education. The reason for the Law classes is due to me wanting to be a legal advocate with special education. My high school statistics weren’t great I started my Junior year with a 2.76 and graduated with a 3.4, shows my ability to bounce back from adversity, but by the end of my spring semester I will of completed 66 credits, which I would imagine would make my high school record irrelevant. I don’t have classes like calc or chem because my major doesn’t require it and would be irrelevant to my course study. I don’t know if this helps at all, but I also have a recommendation letter from a person who was top of there class at vanderbilt was also a professor there and now teaches at another university.

Great Recommendation letters and essays (probably the strongest part of my application besides my ecs)

Fall courses:
Composition 2
Criminal Law
Criminal Procedure
American History 2
Trial Advocacy

Extracurriculars (high school):

Varsity Swim team captain
2 year varsity lettermen
Most outstanding new swimmer award
Founder of Tiger Care International (helped raise money for children in Uganda)
Best Buddies peer mentor
Red Cross Volunteer
Community pool Lifeguard
Part of school debate team

Extracurriculars (college):

Committee chair of Philanthropy within my fraternity
Coordinator for two autism awareness fundraisers raising over $10,000 last year (will be doing the same this year)
Member of Phi Alpha Delta (pre-law fraternity)
Member of Best Buddies/mentor (program for autistic children)
Volunteer (Habitat for Humanity)
Member of College Democrats
Summer internship as a Legal Assistant
Hold position on Legislative, Judicial, and Rules committee within SGA

If anyone has any suggestions in what I would need to do in order to better my chances of admittance please let me know!

Where do you want to transfer to

Pitt, Drexel, Villanova, Penn

Why you want to transfer (both the pull factors from transfer goals and push factors from the home school, so like size of school, academic opportunities, social scene, student life, etc)

Need a well-established university, current university does not have a teaching hospital, want to experience dorm life

Majoring in Nursing w/ a minor in Biology

What do you think your chances are (and some stats if you’re comfortable)
I am confident.
2050 SAT
3.7 HS GPA
I start college this fall
I have a reason why I want to pursue nursing and each of the colleges above

I’m applying to transfer this fall. I have a 3.4 GPA at my CCC and 3.62 in UC-transferrable courses. I’m focusing on UC’s since I want to go to UC Berkeley, but I also want to apply to a few privates (Cornell, USC). What GPA would the private’s look at – cumulative CCC GPA? 3.4 isn’t too strong so I’m concerned about this aspect, though I know GPA isn’t everything

I am a freshman at a public honors college. The college’s locale is pretty isolated and I am looking towards a transfer either in Spring 2011/Fall 2011.

Where do you want to transfer to

NYU(stern), Upenn(wharton), Columbia, possibly other ivy league schools.

Why you want to transfer

As stated above, I dislike a village atmosphere (I grew up in a city), and relish at studying in a huge city like nyc or Philadelphia). I also find my school to be relatively small (nearly 5000 undergrad students), and am actually undecided between wanting a huge school or a smaller population of students, however am leaning towards a urban setting and a large school population, as well as extensive social opportunities.

Upenn only accepts transfers in the fall. NYU states that they accept second semester freshman transfers(spring 2011?) with min 35 credits. However, Stern only accepts fall transfers so I was considering transferring as a psych major before applying for the business school ( would that be possible?)

I have only been at my school for nearly a month so far, and its actually pretty good in terms of academic rigour and clubs and societies (haven’t gotten that involved yet so I cant really tell), though i’m sure better school’s have academic competition on a different scale altogether. I do not want to go to a school where studying and results are placed on a pedestal compared to other forms of education. Being a business major, I want to have the experience of seeing firms and companies function first hand, and also utilize the opportunities offered in such a metropolitan atmosphere.

Desired major/goals

I am a business administration major with premed, also considering taking a psychology major or minor.

What do you think your chances are
Too early for a college GPA
Am currently in Economics Society, Accounting Society, Finance Club and others ( have yet to join)
Used to play basketball in high school (champion in my age division back home)
SAT1: 2340 Crit 790 Math 780 Writing 770
SAT2: did not have time to take before applying for college, i already took my sat1’s really late.
High school did not use GPA
Taking 19 credit hours this fall (max allowed at my sch)
Working experience at a firm
Did extensive community service back home including tutoring at a middle school etc.

Could someone please advise me on what steps to take? I have already begun gathering resources and researching into the above mentioned schools. I am looking towards a Spring 2011 transfer hopefully!!

Where do you want to transfer to: Bard College, Sarah Lawrence College are my main choices.

Why you want to transfer-I would like to transfer because the school I’m currently attending (UCONN-Greater Hartford campus) does not correlate with my desire to learn. I never wanted to go here, a mediocre high school transcript and the lack of prep for college led me to my current situation. I’m hoping I can talk my way through an interview and get accepted!.

Desired major/goals- Literature/Philosophy

What do you think your chances are- I’m not too sure. The numbers I have seen for the transfer rates for the aforesaid are pretty disconcerting, only because I just made it into my top 50% class of about 300 students. I took one AP course, English and did really well. I studied the western canon hedonistically, didn’t really care about school work as it did not sync up with what I was interested in. I’m hoping that Bard and SLC will take notice of my passions and see me holisitcally as opposed to focusing on numbers.

Extension of my previous answer:

-UC Berkeley Also applying to Davis, San Diego, & a few private schools. But my dream school is Cal. I’m currently in my 3rd semester at community college, and I’m applying to schools this semester
-I’ve been wanting to go to Cal since high school but didn’t have the grades to get in the first time around. I love the campus, environment, and closeness to home that Cal would provide me with. The student life at Berkeley seems independent but welcoming, which I like. Also, very diverse
-I want to major in America Studies or Media Studies because they’re interdisciplinary programs and would allow me to take a breadth of different courses for the major. Possibly thinking of double majoring in Sociology, but we’ll see. My goal is to work in the journalism field, online production mainly. Long term, I’m thinking of going to grad school to become a college counselor, but that would be after I’ve worked in other fields.
-Chances: Honestly, I really, really wanted to get accepted, but have my doubts (though they make me nervous!!). I have a 3.64 GPA in UC courses and I’m trying to bring it up to a 3.7+ after this fall semester. I’ve got 1 more pre-req to go for my major and have a 4.0 in the other 2 pre-reqs I’ve taken. I’ve done volunteer work, in a couple of clubs at my community college, and have done an internship while balancing part time work. I plan on applying under American Studies since Media Studies in Capped, and if I get into, possibly switch to media studies.

@relish12: Second semester freshman transfer with a minimum of 32 credits means that you would be applying as a transfer during your second semester of freshman year for admission in Fall 2011. The Spring 2011 deadline is November 1st, 2010… so it doesn’t matter whether you apply to Stern or any other NYU school, you’ll still be applying for Fall 2011.

So far I love alot about being here at UT, but as a minority from the midwest, this “old south” feel just is not for me. So here’s the deal:

OOS student at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville
Freshman
Michigan Native (Graduated from hs there too)
Sport Management Major
3.0 gpa in HS 27 ACT (28 superscore)
Need 25 credits to transfer into UofM school of Kinesiology (taking 15 now)

-What do I need to do to get into UofM-AA for Fall 2011??

Where do you want to transfer to: Reed, Lewis & Clark, Grinnell, Whitman, Macalester

Why you want to transfer: My school now is very conservative, right in the middle of the bible belt! It’s extremely conservative even for a liberal arts school. The students here aren’t really… academic. The greek life here is dominant. Everyone does it. I need a more rigorous environment. And I want to experience dorm life!

Desired major/goals (med, law, grad school and such): Law school

What do you think your chances are (and some stats if you’re comfortable): I’m a 1st generation student. I graduated from HS with a 3.5 GPA with IB courses and diploma. I did a loooot of extra circulars in high school. At the school I’m at now I’m in the honors program, student government, the feminist group, student recruitment team and I have a job. I’m also gonna volunteer at the domestic violence center soon. I think my chances are so-so, I have some C’s on my transcript (I started taking high school classes in 6th grade) and my scores are mediocre. I’m retaking the ACT to hopefully boost my score.

Does anyone that has transferred to any of these schools has advice? I need. Bad. I would go to any of those I got in.

b ump
