2011 UC Transfer Admission Decisions

It’s a competition now? :P

But seriously, I gave up on Cal and LA a while ago :P

Waiting on SD, D, and I now.

isus39-why are you giving up on Cal and UCLA?

Haha actually the way he described it, it was. I guess there were rumors going on around UCLA’s admissions office saying that Cal was going to release early, hoping people would SIR before hearing from LA. So LA is supposedly trying to stay ahead of the game so this doesn’t happen. Nobody freak out. These are all rumors.

@Pinoaiko916 Well, haven’t really given up, but it’s just that I’m looking forward MORE to places like Irvine, Davis, and SD where I actually have a shot of getting into :P

@Pinoiako, UCLA released decisions beginning April 21 last yr

eella89- How did you hear about this? I am kinda getting antsy already.

Isus - regardless, those are amazing schools. Here in California, were spoiled with great schools.

Oh ic, does UCLA release its admission decisions all at once?

unfortunately, no.

If anyone is willing to share, I would love to know your stats (GPA) for transfer acceptance. I’ve heard the UC system (or maybe just several UC’s?) will soon raise the minimum GPA required for transfer.

Anyone willing to share? Much appreciated.

^
3.87 gpa psychology major
all prereqs done
IGETC done
No ecs but have life hardships that i explained in essay
no TAG OR TAP
Accepted into: UCSB and UCSD
PENDING:UCLA and Cal =(

Life harships can help you get into UCLA or Cal. Do you plan to be a clinical neuropsychologist?

Anyone still waiting to hear from the school that you have apply and haven’t got any feedback yet? I had applied to UCI, UCD, UCSD, UCLA, and UCB. There are two more weeks left but I didn’t heard from them yet. They are all pending and I am so nervous now. My GPA is 3.6 smth. Linguistic major. thank you so much.

Haven’t heard back from UCSD, but I already decided on UCSB.

^Yeah, I’ve heard nothing from 5 of the 6 I applied to.

Nothing from UCI, UCD, UCSD, UCLA and Cal (those two I know will come later)

Accepted to SB though. Probably my last choice because of major though.

Your likelihood of getting in (especially at LA and Berkeley) are entirely dependent on your major …and it is NOT EVEN CLOSE!!

By that, I mean, you could have a 3.85 gpa for Biz/econ at UCLA and would be HIGHLY BORDERLINE canditate, while someone with a 3.3 gpa applying to Women’s Studies (no offence to any WS applicants) would have a fairly good shot at getting into UCLA

That said, here are my stats. BTW, I’m an Engineering applicant (also a very competitive major at UCLA and Cal).

Applied to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, CSULB

Accepted so far: UCSD, CSULB

Rejected from: None

Major: Electrical Engineering (EECS at Berkeley)

Overall GPA: 3.85

Major GPA: 3.79

Factors that help me: Older, non-traditional student with lots of responsibilities working full time, Only one C and one B and twenty one A’s

Factors that hurt me: Got a “C” in a VERY important major pre-req (Physics - Electricity and Magnetism), No major related ECs, except tutoring Math/Physics at my CC

Personal Statement: Was read by 4 people at my CC, including a transfer counselor and was told they felt it was “good” on a good/mediocre/bad scale.

Victor5555- for my major (psychology). Even a student with a 3.70 overall gpa for that major is considered borderline as the average GPA for psych majors for UCLA is a 3.78 and 3.80 for Cal.

Bottom line is to have a good shot for your particular major, have a GPA above the admitted average from the previous year.

Major GPA does help as well because if a person has a 4.0 major GPA, it will show to the admissions officers that he/she is capable of doing well in upper division coursework.

No offense taken by us Womens Studies majors. I feel lucky enough to be genuinely interested in a very low demand major. It is what it is.

In all of these discussions, it is also extremely important to point out the role of ECs, hardships and such. Many times on these boards these are completely blown out of proportion.

ECs are a great help only to borderline candidates. Meaning a 3.5 to 3.6ish gpa candidate with stellar ECs might get into Cal or UCLA for engineering. However, it would not make any difference for someone with say, a 3.1 gpa, once again, unless you’ve done something PHENOMENAL …and by this I don’t mean just something “great”, but something TRULY EXTRAORDINARY …along the lines of “finding a cure for cancer”, “winning the nobel prize at 17”, …and so on.

Hardships have a slightly bigger effect, provided a DIRECT “cause and effect” can be shown. For instance achieving a 3.5 gpa under very grueling cirumstances could be considered a great achievement, but for someone who just sat at home and twiddled their thumbs it would only be “decent”. However this part of the app is the biggest “catch-22” It is EXTREMELY subjective and no two people will agree on how “challenging” a particular situation is. Also it has the potential to backfire if they think that someone was trying to BS and “manufacture” hardship just for the sake of embelishing their app.

victor5555-I forgot to add that ^^^^^^^^^^^^ in my previous post.
