Pinoiako916, when I researched the various gpas at UCLA for competitiveness (just for kicks) I was truly surprised that there were quite a few fields that were so competitive.

natjan, true! I feel lucky, myself, even in engineering (for UCLA at least) my particular branch of engineering (Electrical) is one the least competitive of all the specialties within engineering!

TAP for UCLA

@Victor - The UCLA adcom I know says they have to take applications at face value. They won’t assume anything is false unless a story contradicts. Then they ask for some kind of verification. Also, he said the hardships can make or break a borderline candidate. Although, my Cal TAP advisor put a lot more emphasis on hardships being helpful.

I’m a great example of a below average (gpa wise) applicant, who has had several hardships that are unique. I’m also first generation. So once the LA and Cal decisions come out we could make some assumptions off whether I am accepted or not.

Sorry about spelling/grammar. Using my phone.
