2011 UCLA Transfers: The Central Thread for Discussion and Decisions

Chem is a non-impacted major.

Sti’s are sick! What do you think about the new generation? It reminds of an evo but nevertheless its still a sexy car imo

@ XvIRAL Yeah chem is nonimpacted but the Chem 14 series was designed for life science majors, so I doubt it will count as any of the chem prereqs. What do you guys think about Cog Sci or Anthro B.S, ?
Both are non-impacted. I have not taken Psych or Anthro though haha.

I love them! They are similar to evo’s but evo’s have always had a special place in my heart. Last years 4dr wrx kind of disappointed me but now the sti is super fatty. I came to love them because they didn’t look like sports cars though, it’s all about the rally.

@nabilesmail

Depends, what do you plan on doing afterwards (career wise)?

@xViral
I think it was 3.61 when I applied. It’s a bit higher now since I took winter.

I don’t know how compelling my story is… It might actually not be a big deal, but I earned 4.0 GPA every semester except Spring 2010, where I got a 2.0 with three classes. I am the primary care taker of my brother who has a physical disability and requires 24/7 assistance. I have a strict schedule where I can only take classes when my parents are home from their work breaks. I’ve never been able to get involved in extracurricular activities due to these circumstances. The semester I got a 2.0 in, my brother was extremely sick. I didn’t explicitly state this in my application, but since my essay is about my responsibilities of taking care of my brother, I’m hoping they made the connection. I’m starting to think my situation isn’t all that compelling because there are many people with the same, if not greater, responsibilities. Darn.

@RSXtypeSandS2000
Thanks! Hopefully we can all report back with good news.

I’m pre-med I’m completely passionate about becoming a doctor, haha

I’m pre med. You don’t need to major in a life science.

@xjennifer

3.61 is ok, if I remember correctly last year’s avg for psych was 3.63? You should have taken TAP especially because psych is pretty impacted but either way I think you have a good shot.

@nabilesmail

If you plan on majoring as cog sci B.S or anthro B.A, you should make sure you fulfill the med school prereqs like calc/chem/bio/physics stuff while finishing your own major-required courses.

@xViral
I thought it was somewhere in the high 3.7’s. I do have TAP! Yay!

@ Ella yea I thought the wrx was ugly as well as the sti, but this year it definetly looks a lot better. And thats cool unlike you I prefer sports cars though, I prefer to drive a coupe over a sedan unless that sedan was like an evo 8/9, sti, or an M3

@Ella I know I dont have to major in Life Sci, but I like biology :confused:
I wonder how cog sci is to get in or Anthro? or should I appeal as marine bio (which is technically impacted) but the average gpa is like a 3.4, and maybe I could switch into a diff bio program there. I could also say in my appeal that I love Marine Bio now lols, (I’m taking it right now and hate it lols).

@Jen & Xviral - The average GPA admit for psych last year was 3.78. Although, if you go through threads on here there were plenty of people admitted in the 3.5-6 range without TAP. So you still have a good shot.

Don’t know how late I should stay up waiting for this…it’s already 8.22pm in England :frowning:
And I’ve got a full day of studying tomorrow boooooo

@nabilesmail Anthro B.A. is also good because they all you to easily switch to the B.S. which can be considered pre-med.

@xjennifer

That’s even better then. GL.

@XViral, Yeah of course I will, I’ll only have chem labs/1 quarter of ochem and physics to take, I’m just wondering if Anthro/Cog Sci are very “human body” related since thats my interest.

Sigh I’m psych too and I’m sorta below the average, and don’t have much EC’s.
This wait is really killing me, and I have a biology practicum in three hours and I keep refreshing this page haha

@Ella89

Just checked, last years and you were right lol. I was thinking of 09’s, but that’s still 3.7
