2011 US News and World Report Rankings

The 2011 US News and World Report rankings come out on Tuesday. Any predictions as far as where JHU will rank this year? Higher? Lower?

Johns Hopkins has had an upward trend over the years (esp on world report) so I think it might go up  But that might be my eternal bias for Johns Hopkins :)

I’d say between 10-15. It won’t break into 10, but won’t drop below 15 either. BTW, here Hopkins is ranked #1:

^ That’s the hard work of the incoming freshman class ;)

I have a feeling we will end up around 12 or 13

^^ I was wondering how Hopkins maintains its top standing in the VSpink school spirit race.

I’m assuming if US news is reranking this tuesday, they will also release med, law, business, engineering, etc rankings. So how do you guys think Johns Hopkins School of Medicine is going to do in the rankings?

Medicine came back some time ago. Somehow, UPenn displaced them for number 2. I think most of the others came out a while ago as well.

Oh I thought those would be replaced Tuesday. Ah well :)

Well, it looks like JHU moved up one spot, from #14 to #13…

Aren’t they out tomorrow?

The USNWR rankings–at least for the top 50 schools in National Universities–are now posted on their website.

Wait why are these being posted here?

Yayy JHU for moving up!

These are the “national rankings” for 2011.

Which is the joke? This ranking or the US News one. Both. But the US News is funnier.

guys none of there ranking mean much. the top 25 or so schools have excellent reputations, that’a all that’s important. in the end it wont matter whether you go to harvard or berkeley, all that’s important is what you are able to accomplish while there.

now, one might be able to argue that it may be easier to do well and excel in some schools versus the others, but that’s where personal “fit,” an individual’s attributes, and specific school resources come into play…not rankings.

edit:
aaaaaaaaaaand just in case im not being clear enough, what i’m saying boils down to this: you can go to virtually ANY reputable school and succeed beyond your wiiiiildest dreams. make the most of your resources and you’ll do fine. rankings don’t matter much at all unless you are an average or below avg student hoping to get a boost from your school. the boost wont be much, if any!..i can guarantee you that!

idk Well said.

I would go far as to say that I am doing pretty well with a degree from a very poor state school. I know a few of my classmates barely scraping by with Ivy educations. (of course back then, getting into an ivy was a hell of a lot easier than it is today!).

objob: The school spirit ranking is kind of a joke. I think it is an on-line thing from Victorias secret, and the student body must have gotten behind the online voting. I think on any ranking, hopkins isnt known for school spirit.

Haha. I know that. My point is that it is not much more of a joke than the USNWR ranking.

Oh. Sorry, I thought you were making a point or asking a question, but you were just ■■■■■■■■. That’s cool.

For fun, why dont you enlighten us with your top 20 schools?
