2011 Waitlist

Did he apply for CAS?
Any idea if people got off the waitlist for Stern?

Sorry – meant to add that he applied for Architectural Studies in CAS!

Do all the college send waitlist response at the same time?
or is it different from college to college?
dahh I’m sooo worried now ;<
really wana do BPE!! ;<

hahahh yea my friend wrote the harvard one as a joke when she was on my username, and i wrote that i got waitlisted at Umich not that i got in (nice reading). im not a ■■■■■, and i really did get into LSP off the waitlist and i’ll be going to NYU next year which is my top choice college, so i honesty don’t care if you believe me:)

You obviously do care since you took time to delineate everything.

But anyway, congratulations.

I am also on the NYU waitlist and have yet to hear from them…

I got accepted to UVa though and was wondering which is better?

Also on the waitlist, and getting super nervous. Does anyone have ANY insight into what’s going on at NYU right now, in terms whether they’re going to the waitlist for CAS, and how full the class is already?

ALSO: If I would be willing to commute, and therefore not need housing, is this something I should make the NYU rep aware of?

Well, about a month ago when the decisions came out, I called my regional director of admissions for CAS and she said we’d be hearing starting the second week of May. However, their waitlist FAQ says we’d know anytime between May 1st and July 1st. Who knows…

Nobody knows anything about how many spaces are available at this point. Let’s call admissions on Monday to ask about the wl. Anybody willing to join me in doing that?

i’m with you, youarebeautiful

I applied to CAS as an economics major and I accepted the waitlist. They just sent me an email telling me that I got into LSP and the email came to me Friday around 11 AM EST. Now I feel like I’m being offered a consolation prize here. Does anyone know if LSP is actually worth it? I know of people that got rejected by CAS but instead offered admission to Poly, which I feel is definitely a consolation prize. I know I’m promised a CAS degree in two years but I just don’t know if I should accept it. I’ve already enrolled at UMich but I had always considered going to NYU instead if I were admitted off the waitlist. Now that I’ve been rejected from the UMich honors program and NYU’s CAS, I feel like my decision has just become very difficult.

Also, I emailed back and apparently they just took me off the CAS waitlist because my “offer of admission is for LSP now.” Are they not tapping into the waitlist this year? I’m not exactly happy about this…

LSP, for the most part, is basically a “consolation prize” like FormerElitist stated. I am just concluding this based on the information I’ve read on these forums. Although NYU denies this, it is basically accepted here that LSP is NYU’s “you’re not good enough but we still want your money” option.

@FormerElitist
I would just go to UMich. The honors program really doesn’t mean much. Mich is an amazing school. In my opinion, UMich = NYU CAS. However, I really don’t know how UMich Economics is. NYU CAS Economics is above average (just letting you know).

@AshlieWly
You are in a similar situation. It really depends on what you are majoring. NYU will be better for some while UVa will be better for others. If you get LSP’d, just go with UVa. If somehow you manage to grab a spot in CAS/Stern, then just consider your financial aid before making your decision.

Honestly speaking, NYU isn’t that good beside their business school and law school, which both are outstanding. Friends told me that LSP is basically a joke, where anyone can go so long they can afford it, so you shouldn’t do LSP if you already have a good school.

I decided to go into LSP at NYU next year after doing all my research and I’m super pumped! I definitely think you should consider it if you’ve been accepted. I know at first it feels like a consolation prize, but at learning more about it I bet you’ll start seeing it as an amazing opportunity.

LSP has the second largest incoming class at NYU, second just to CAS. And if you’ve been reading about complaints from NYU students they say the two biggest issues are the huge class sizes and the lack of community. In LSP all you classes will be 25 students ,ax. Your professors will know your name right away, while you roomate in Stern or CAS’s professor might never learn their name. Within the first month of school you’ll have professors who will know you well enough to write you a letter of recommendation. Some CAS students never develop this kind of relationship with their professors due to the huge class sizes.
And in LSP there is a sense of community. In classes of only 25 kids you get to know everyone. A current LSP student I talked with said that when she’s walking down the street she says hi to about ten people who she knows from her classes, while her roommate might only acknowledge one or two people because in lecture hall classes its hard to become friendly with a lot of other students.

There are so many other awesome things about LSP, I encourage you to call up the university and ask questions and talk to current LSP students. You might hear somethings that suprise you, and some things that you like.

I would be ECSTATIC to be accepted into LSP. They’re making it an official program that students can specifically apply to starting next year. That means you’ll be able to be proud of being an LSP student. Really, it’s not that terrible. You’re guaranteed an NYU diploma. You get to study abroad. You get to take interesting classes. Sounds like a win to me.

well, at least they are improving it…
it’ll only be Stern for me tho ;<
ahh wana go there SOO bad

For any Tisch waitlisters, my college counselor contacted someone at Tisch who said they will be going to their waitlist this year. Not sure how many people they’ll be accepting, but they said they’d be notifying people as early as THIS week. Anyone heard from them yet?

Ahhh!! I’ve been checking this thread obsessive-compulsively. I was waiting for an email to come around this hour, as last week’s accepted waitlistees received emails around 8am PST, but to no avail. I’m hoping I’ll be receiving a phone call sometime later. :frowning: I shouldn’t get my hopes up to high…

I’ve been obsessively checking this thread/my email too! I just want to know already!

My S decided to go elsewhere for school and NYU contacted him a couple of days ago to confirm that he would not attend NYU. I guess they don’t assume if you do nothing by May 1 (which is what he did), you’re not coming. In any event, that may be a good sign to waitlisters that they will see some movement quite soon. He was accepted into CAS BTW. Good luck!

No, I haven’t heard anything yet, but that news gives me a bit more hope!

Ahhh, good luck to everyone! It’s so nerve-wracking.
