Is anyone on here looking into moving into the Castilian this spring?

I am considering the Castilian among other off campus apartments

@HookEm006 I currently live at the castilian but I am trying to move into my friends apartment this spring but my lease at the castillian is for the entire year and the leasing office said I have to find someone else to take my spot before I can cancel my lease. If you end up choosing the castillian, can you pm me so you can take my spot?

I would be willing to pay half of your first months rent as an incentive.

p.s If you want an apartment in west campus, I would greatly recommend the Quarters and nothing else.

If you want a dorm type of life with already cooked meals and a community feel, I would recommend the castillian. I am trying to leave only because living with my friend is much cheaper than living at the castillian.

If you get admitted do they also send you a following email?

I had a 3.41 with 5 A’s about 2 B’s and a C which killed my gpa in Calculus II.
I was in the Bauer School of Business at UH.
I was a member of about 3 clubs most notable the UH Debate team in which I had a couple of awards and an SGA program.

I think what did it for me was perhaps my essays, and my involvement in UH’s forensics league and the fact that my gpa was only lower than average because of one class that was worth 4 hours out of 29 taken at UH.

Good luck!

BTW wheres everybody living next year? Is anybody looking for a roomate because me and a buddy of mine wanted to share a bedroom in west campus.?

Does anybody know if we have to take a math placement exam? I know freshmen do but not sure about transfer students.

@jmasterj23 I doubt you have to take a math placement exam if you have taken calculus 1 & 2, I transferred in this fall and didn’t have to take it.

Since I never got a response on my topic I guess I’ll just post here.

I am an aspiring transfer student applying for Radio/Television/Film and UGS as my second choice. I am a freshman at a community college and I am about to finish my first semester. I did 15 hours this semester but I also took 6 hours of dual credit English my senior year. As of now it looks like I’ll be getting all As except for one class in which I will most likely be getting a B. My dual credit classes count towards my GPA at my community college however so my GPA will be a 3.43. I have read that the GPA UT Austin uses for transfers is only for classes that were taken at an actual college classroom (i.e they give you credit for dual credit courses but the GPA they look at only counts for classes you took in college). If this is the case my GPA will be a 3.8.
I took the following courses this semester: GOVT 2305, HIST 1301, MATH 1314, HUMA 1301, and PSYC 2301. I am taking GOVT 2306, HIST 1302, MATH 1342, COMM 1307, and GEOL 1403 next semester. In the end I will have 36 transfer credits but only 21 when I actually apply.
I work part-time at Best Buy as a gaming associate. It is my first and only job and, since I don’t really have any volunteer work or anything, is really the only official thing I can put on my resume. I got an award for a graphic design competition back in junior year of high school but aside from that I don’t have any actual achievements for my resume. I have a lot of experience with video editing and compositing (I plan on focusing on visual effects) and use Adobe After Effects and 3DS Max quite often but as for actual achievements the main thing I can put on my resume is my job and my visual effects skills. I plan on talking a lot about my love for visual effects in my essays and my technical knowledge in my essays so I am hoping that sets me apart. I have been told I am a good essay writer (I have never made below a 95 on any college writing assignment without much effort but that may just be because it’s community college) so I am not too worried about my essays so much.
So what do you think guys? Do you think I have a pretty solid shot? Or at least UGS? Also how is the visual effects department? If I am accepted I plan on doing a lot of VFX work and I want to make a VFX heavy short-film a-la Chronicle but with lightsabers by the end of my senior year as a side project (that won’t come till much later though).
If it helps I am a hispanic/middle-eastern so I am hoping the minority card works in my favor.

@walkers well the problem is that I couldn’t take calculus at the community college I’m in right now instead they made me take college algebra I’m supposed to take math 1316 next semester but I’m unsure because I don’t know if ill have to take a math placement exam, if I do I’m pretty sure Ill get a high score and go straight to calculus, which means there is not really a reason for me to take math 1316 at my current school

@jp I’m pretty much in the same situation ill have 22 hours by the time I apply because i used credit from AP exams I took in high school I’m hopeful that my gpa will be 3.6 at worst I’ve read that if you apply for UGS a 3.5 gpa along with good essays will most likely get you in, I’m applying to liberal arts (economics) but will probably transfer to business after a year, I’m a pretty good writer too so my essays should be fine I also have a decent amount of service hours and some awards I don’t have a job but I help at my dads job every weekend so Ill try to squeeze that in, I would say that your 3.8 should get you in just as long as you don’t screw up next semester.

Hey Guys. I’m apply for CNS Biology and COLA Undeclared. I think I’ll end up with anywhere between 3.58 - 3.71. If I get a 3.58 or above, do you think I have a good chance at getting in?

@jmasterj23 Technically speaking I will have a 3.46 (dual credit is included in my community college GPA since I was technically a college student and high school student). The 3.8 is only if UT counts your college GPA for classes you only took in a college classroom. After this semester I’ll have 21 hours.

I feel like my chances are completely gone because of an honest mistake I made. I accidentally took an exam on the wrong day which I 100% thought was the right day and the teacher penalized me 25% on the final exam and now I have a C instead of a B. I have A/A- in all my other classes but this one C is going to kill me. If I get an B+ in Biology I’ll have a 3.54 and if I get an A- in Biology I’ll have a 3.61.

Do you guys think I still have a chance? I made an honest mistake and I feel like my chances are completely done after what has happened

@salsatime I really think a 3.58-3.61 should definitely get you in specially to COLA so you should be fine you should also emphasize your mistake and how it really wasn’t your fault I’m sure the admission people will understand

I know it’s still early for fall transfer, but I’m worried. I will only have 27 hours completed and I want to apply to the college of communication. By the end of the fall semester I’ll have 40 hours with about a 3.92 GPA, but since I won’t find out until May I’m afraid that the college of communication will already have their spots filled. Should I just go for it, or should I also apply into the COLA as well?

Calm down Manny,

They save spots for transfers you will most likely be fine.

I’m not an admissions officer, of course, but with your stats you should be okay.

Manny you should be fine. Keep up the good GPA.

For those that have been accepted, how do you clear the bars? I have a TSI bar, advising, and final college transcript. Will the orientation clear the advising bar? What do I have to do to clear the TSI Bar?

Advising bar will be removed during/after your advising meeting during orientation.

I was TSI exempt; if you are not, I suggest calling admissions tomorrow. I think you need to take an exam during orientation. I would also call to follow up on the transcript.

I am TSI exempt at my current college, but I guess that didn’t get in the system somehow. I will call, thanks.
