Wish I lived closer so I could go see very show!

Thanks for the info austinmtmom! My D is a senior this year and is planning to audition for MT at Coastal Carolina this year. Since we live in the DFW area, do you know if it would be better for her to audition it the North Texas Auditions first, or to send in a video and try to audition on-campus the week before they come to Dallas? She really loves everything she has learned about their program. We were going to visit the campus this summer while we were on the coast for vacation, but we had a death in the family and had to change plans.

Hi cvtxmtmom! I think it really just depends on what your D is comfortable with. If she is prepared to attend an early audition, doing the November on-campus date is great. At least in the past, there have not been as many students at that audition day as there are at the spring dates. CCU already spends lots of time with those auditioning at the on-campus days, but I think you get even more of that at the November audition. And since CCU may offer early acceptance to some from the November audition, if your D is really interested in CCU and gets that acceptance, it may allow her to take some other schools off of her list. Hopefully Ken will see this and weigh in as well.

Best of luck on the journey!

Thanks so much for you advice! She definitely needs to go to the November on-campus audition first. It certainly seems to me that it would be to her advantage to be seen in a smaller group. I am certain that, if she were so fortunate as to receive an early acceptance offer, she would take more than a few schools off her list.

I did see it. And the advice is dead on. The audition date tends to have fewer potential students, and we do make an offer or two out of those auditions. All in all, I’d say the November date is the date to show up.

Some have even come back a second time just to make certain we had ample opportunity to get to know them. I’m not advocating that at all, but it has happened.

Thanks so much Ken. We hope to meet you in November.

I’ll be there. For sure.

There are still a few slots left open at the Chicago Unified auditions. I think the faculty may be able to take some walk ins, but if you want to guarantee yourself a spot feel free to send me a PM for instructions! Although prescreens are required for the on campus auditions, that is not the case for an initial audition slot in Chicago.

This was posted in the Theatre/Drama forum, but thought it might be of interest to anyone auditioning at CCU this spring.

Break legs!

Thanks so much for your advice. We did attend the on-campus audition last weekend. After visiting 7 different campuses, I have to say that the day at CCU was the best of them all. The faculty and students were so welcoming and shared so much information about their program. I feel like I know more about their program than any other that we visited. They went above and beyond by providing lunch and visiting with all of the potential students while we ate. Then they gave us tickets to their production of Pippin, a wonderful show. My D really loved it there.

What did you think of Pippin, cvtxmtmom?

We also attended the on campus auditions 2/2. Loved everything about CCU–especially the faculty and students!! Pippin was WONDERFUL and with tons of talented students. Really impressed with the school and the theatre department!!

I really enjoyed Pippin. The costumes and choreography were especially amazing.

So glad to hear positive feedback on the audition day! It is constantly evolving to meet the needs of the auditionees and parents as well as what will help the faculty make their fin decisions on admissions. Things are even still being tweaked between the Feb 2 and our upcoming Feb 23 to accomodate a slightly larger group. But hearing that the day was worthwhile for the makes me even more excited for our last 2 days! Decisions are being made daily and although I wish I could promise that news well go out soon, so many things factor in that almost all students will be hearing individually and on their own time as the faculty becomes more certain about the final results. Hope that makes sense!

PS: Love how much everyone loved Pippin! I saw it 4 or 5 times because I really could not get enough haha. Plus all my friends were in it and what else would I do at night? ;)
