2012-2013 Tuition Announced

From today's UDaily:

University of Delaware announces tuition rates for 2012-13

Less than 5% increase for OOS, but those numbers are getting up there!

The one small thing that really irks me about UD is how late they provide the semester’s actual bill. Everything has to be in place by August 1 and I still don’t have a bill. Yes it all works out, but I would like things a little more time not to rush.

Agreed!! It seems that given the amount of money changing hands, there could a bit more advance notice.

And it’s higher than Pitt, Penn State, UMd and UNC Chapel Hill

Zoosermom - that irks me as well. I went through my e-mail from last summer, and I did not receive our fall bill until July 17. I find that unacceptable.

…Agreed. UD makes it a real hustle to get the tuition paid on time; what’s most galling about the whole thing is it’s completely avoidable and within the schools’ ability to control. A look at billing/payment history data shoed that y bill came in on July 17th last Summer, and was due on August 1.
If you read CC posts, UD administration, you can do better here!!

Interesting how a 4.8% OOS increase looks good compared to last year’s 8% increase. Still, we will need to pay an extra $1,310 in tuition and fees. Given the state of the economy, the level of recent pay raises by large employers, and the low savings rates available in banks and money markets, any increase of more than 1% seems like too much.

So I take it this means that we haven’t even gotten the financial aid overview package yet, either? I can’t seem to find it on my UD-SIS page and I’m going to be an undergrad. student.

Just for fun, I reviewed my daughter’s estimated financial aid letter last night. The tuition increase was within a couple of hundred dollars of the estimate. Don’t get me wrong - I’d be happer if it was much lower but at least they didn’t bait us with one number and then switch to a higher one after she committed.

Fauster - Glad to hear they did a decent job estimating the cost for you. Last year, the actual cost was more than $2000 above what they estimated in our financial aid letter.

$39,000 for OOS and people don’t think that’s too bad. 5% increase this year – I wish I was getting those percent increases at my or my husband’s jobs. People are getting either flat salary increases or cuts. It’s really out of control!

actually mine was about $40,500 but the deposit is in there so it brings it down a bit to the under 40 mark. Thank goodness for D’s academic money! I agree! a 5% raise in salary would be very nice! lol!

Where do you see full year? I looked at the statement and it is 20,229 for half year. No aid – D said any school giving her money isn’t a good school…

Strange, my OOS balance due before deduction of D’s scholarship award is $18,053, or $36k a year. D will be in Christiana, is that cheaper?

Isn’t the meal plan optional in The Towers? That could be the difference.

Maybe that’s it Traye25. I will have to ask her if she either intentionally or forgot to pick a meal plan.

Meal on statement is 2,121.00

The default meal plan is 10 meals and 275 points. I changed my DS’s a few days ago to the 19 meals and of course it was higher at $ 2149.

If anyone else needs to change, go to their student center page on UDSIS and there is a change request under Housing/Dining.

Just remember that after the freshman year $ that gets you in the door that those yearly increases are ouch and you don’t necessarily get more merit awards after freshman year! I guess the secret is out for Best Value for your $ but the increases are putting it further out of that realm.

I have a question for Blue Hen parents. I was curious about UDel for my rising senior. Even if you are fortunate to get merit aid- I see it does not help with fee increases? Also, I was looking at the Winter session and travel abroad fees. I think, even with any merit aid, those would be cost prohibitive for us. Do any scholarships allow in- state tuition rates for study abroad? It’s important to be able to anticipate any expenses if possible.
Thanks
