Does anyone know when they will release the essays for the Fall 2012 application, and also where to find them? Thanks!

The director of admissions just emailed me today and said it was a heads up so i haven’t checked the website to see if they’re out their.

here’s the two essay prompts: (i got them via email)

Essay 1: How have your past circumstances and experiences (such as your upbringing, community, and/or activities) impacted who you are, your future goals, and your choice of major? If you haven’t decided on a college or major yet, briefly explain your intentions and aspirations for your first year at Illinois. Please limit your response to approximately 300 words.

Essay 2: In no more than 300 words, tell us something about yourself that isn’t covered elsewhere in this application, some interest or experience of yours that you think the University of Illinois should know about as part of the admissions review.

i’m not sure if we write both or just choose one. does anyone know?

You write both of them. Shouldn’t take too long though it can make the difference if you’re on the fence between admit/reject.

Is their a certain format we have to write them in? or can we make them our own?

As long as you actually answer the question, feel free to do whatever. Although, if you’re planning on doing a story, 300 words is a bit limited.

Does U of I put lots of emphasis on these short essays? Of course I am going to do them and put substantial effort into them, but will a 29 ACT and 3.7 GPA be somewhat sufficient for the university? I am in state.
