2012 Application

anyone know when they come out for summer b and fall 2012? and is the essay the same every year?

I want to know the same thing! You can access the application year round, I do know that. I plan on DOWNLOADING mine around the beginning of August (school starts for me August 15th for my senior year) and filling it out and getting it done, then as soon as school starts getting my transcript and sending recommendation letters.

Im starting my app. now. anyone else doing that?

I technically started my app in december, I made an account just to see what it looked like. But the Summer 2012 one isn’t out yet so that is the one I have to submit. Sifanatic, did it say yours was the new app or the 2011 one?

I still have the old one. Filled out all the dry info first at least

me toooo! i also just scheduled a campus visit for next month :)

I believe that the essay stays the same. Quick tips for your application: UCF took in a bunch of really good applicants this past year. There were many kids I met that were going in for the Summer term that had really good GPAs and stats. I was shocked, liked some of them had many AP credits and such. I recommend making your application stand out as much as you can. UCF’s getting big and many students are becoming interested. Good luck to anyone applying! I hope you all get accepted :)

Thank you so much! :)

Thanks! Im crammin everything in it haha

If I’m not mistaken, the new 2012 application comes out in July. I’m going to be applying. I hope I get in :). Also, according to my guidance counselor, UCF does not read teacher recommendations. You can send them but there’d be no point in sending them because they won’t be read. Same goes for UF and FSU. I think UM reads them though. The only recommendations UCF reads are guidance counselor recommendations.

i’m getting one from my guidance counselor and one from a teacher, so i think i’ll be good. anyone mind posting the essay prompts?

The essay prompt I had to do last year was something along these lines…

“Have you ever had anything impact your life (sickness, family problems, death of a close one)? How have you overcome it?”

You had to choose two of the 4 essay prompts.

  1. If there has been some obstacle or ‘bump in the road’ in your academic or personal life, please explain the circumstances.
  2. How has your family history, culture or environment influenced who you are today?
  3. Why did you choose to apply to UCF?
4.What qualities or unique characteristics do you possess that would allow you to contribute to the UCF community?

I plan on sending my application early august. The whole letter of recommendation thing is a bit of a buyer; I have an amazing letter from my ap english teacher, but can’t get one from my gc, claims to be too busy. Ucf is getting a lot more competitive, even for summer. I just hope they look into equally as important things: extra curricular, community service, sports, music, employment, etc. Anyone can have dazzling scores and spa’s, but if you didn’t do anything other then that, you probably don’t have good time, management. A friend of mine gets straight A’s…but she’s not involved in anything, and can’t balance multiple things. I just hope ucf looks toward what i’ve done out of academics. Sorry if this comes across rude, but anyone can have cookie cutter grades; it doesn’t say much of your character outside of academics. Cross my fingers, and if I find out more info, I’ll be sure to tell you all:)

WRITEfluidity is right that you need extracurriculars. Don’t forget though that acedemics also matter heavily.

Chance me if you guys can:

I’d appreciate it :)

I don’t like the saying that you need “cookie-cutter” grades to get into UCF. Like I said, many kids that applied for the Summer term had high GPAs. I don’t think those qualify as “cookie-cutter”. Just being honest, UCF is underrated :P

So just clarifying…you need to write TWO separate essays, correct? (:

Yeah.
“…We ask that you respond to two of the topics below. Your personal statement should be no longer than 500 words or a total of 7000 characters for both statements (refer to character remaining counter below the essay).”
So two “essays” with a combined word count of no more than 500 words.

I really want to talk about the death of my grandfather and how it motivated me to succeed because he always put school as a top priority for his grandchildren. And then I want to talk about how I can contribute to UCF. I feel like a combined word count of only 500 words is NOTHING! Also, when is the essay in the application? I’ve signed up for an account to apply but I can’t seem to find the essay section.

Yeah, the essays aren’t supposed to be too long, and it was pretty easy to reach the limit. You’ll just have to use self-control :P. I don’t remember when it was in the essay…towards the end I think?
