2012 Appointee Orientation

<p>The sessions for 2008 are 14-15, 21-22 and 28-29 April. These orientations are a Monday-Tuesday program designed to provide the appointees with the opportunity to become acquainted with the mission, operation, facilities, and faculty of the Academy. They will have the occasion to talk to members of the staff as well as the cadets. Monday is a full day of briefings by the senior staff. Late Monday afternoon, each appointee will be assigned an upper class cadet and will sleep in the dorm. On Tuesday, each appointee will shadow his/her cadet, attending classes and eating at Mitchell Hall. This orientation is not mandatory, but does provide the appointees the benefit of learning “what’s ahead” and should help them make their decision whether or not to proceed. </p>

<p>On each Tuesday afternoon, a walking tour of the cadet area is available to the parents. These tours are conducted by staff members of the Association of Graduates. Sign up for the tour can be done on line (Appointee Registration) or on Monday morning in Arnold Hall (where the briefings are held). This is a “walking” tour and not recommended for those who are physically challenged. </p>

Cut off for registration is Thursday before each session.</p>

<p>Im currently at the USAFA Prep school, do you know if we are authorized to attend this?</p>

<p>You should be, regardless of being a preppie, USAFA is different from the prep school.</p>

<p>you might miss class tho duran, best thing would be to talk to your aoc/amt about it</p>

<p>I talked to a preppie 4-dig in my squad, and she said she doesn't know whether you guys are allowed to or not, since she didn't do Orientation in April. She recommended talking to your aoc/amt or a teach you get along with alright. Hope that helps.</p>

<p>Does anyone know of any really good deals for orientation? Also, when do you usually go? I was thinking about leaving on a saturday and coming back on a wednesday? So any good deals?</p>

<p>Last year, I arrived on Sunday and left early Wednesday morning. If you want to explore the surronding area a little before Orientation, coming on a Saturday would work. Just don't forget about the CC dinners!</p>

<p>we booked our hotel on priceline and it was a really good deal. It is about 1/2 a mile from the nearest pickup (forget which that is), but our frequent flyer miles are with southwest so we're flying into denver and will have a car anyway.</p>

<p>long-winded, but what i meant was that for us it didn't matter if it was a little bit away, and i guess priceline may or may not work depending on if you've rented a car or if you mind hiring a taxi, etc :)</p>

<p>got ours from travelocity and it wasnt bad.. flying into denver isnt such a bad idea if you'll need a car to travel anyway, so look into that...</p>
