which are the best dorms?

@jambagirl
it depends on what youre looking for. there are the cerro vista apartments, which is apartment style living so you have three roommates, your own room, it has two bathrooms, and a kitchen. it sounds pretty cool to have your own space and privacy with that but a lot of people say its harder to meet people and bit further away.
there are the social dorms, being sierra madre and yosemite. the only difference with those is that sierra madre is not coed floors and yosemite is. most people say those are the party dorms.
there are the red bricks which they do by major i think. but those are smaller and a lot of times you have triples in red bricks. but they look the nicest from the outside haha.
and theres a few other choices.
i found all this out online last night theres a lot of info about each dorm if u look for it.

Actually you’ve probably already heard. If you were deferred the little thing that said “thank you for applying to Cal Poly early decision” should now just say “thank you for applying to Cal Poly.” If it still has early decision on it, you still have a chance, if not, you’ve most likely been moved to the regular decision pool. I’m pretty sure I was deferred.

@jakotatio

Damn, that’s what my portal says now. Are you sure that’s what it means? Will chances be that I don’t get accepted the second time around?

@bWiener – it is my understanding that each major has its own selection process. Keep the faith!

So if I heard no reply yesterday and my portal changed from “Thank you for applying Early Decision to Cal Poly” to “Thank you for applying to Cal Poly” , does it mean I was put into the regular admissions pool? Or do I still have a chance for ED? Did everyone who didn’t receive acceptance yesterday have this change in their portal?

@jreeder18 I have the same thing going on too. I don’t know if it means we’re deferred, but I think it’s safe to assume so. I still have a tiny bit of hope though because we haven’t actually been told we’ve been denied yet.

Yeah mine changed, I didn’t even realize until you pointed that out. I hope I’m still in the running for ED!

bWeiner and csavoia : That’s what I’m assuming it mean, but doesnt hurt to still have some hope! Good luck guys(:

You have been deferred to the regular admissions pool if your portal no longer says early decision. :(

@michael2 Are you sure that’s right? I mean, it makes perfect sense, but you think they’d outright tell you that you’ve been denied via e-mail, snail mail or some other way, rather than just hoping you notice it doesn’t say “early decision” anymore.

From what I’ve read, first your portal will change and remove the “early decision” and then you receive a letter via snail mail saying you haven’t been accepted early decision. The letter should probably come by next week.

This is just what I’ve read from CC forums from past years.

I don’t know how likely it is that we’ll get accepted in the second round of admissions. When I took the tour, the lady at the info session pointed out that the early admission selections are a little more competitive because there are only so many spots they are willing to give via early decision. So in the next round, their will be more available spots but also more people you’re going against. We can only hope for the best at this point.

Well there’s always CHICOO!

My daughter was accepted into Journalism yesterday. GPA 4.1+, ACT 31. EC and Work not in major. She is ecstatic, she has been in love with SLO for years and originally wanted to go in to be a vet in animal science. Decided journalism was more where her interest and expertise lies. She also applied to UCLA, Berkeley, UCSB, but was willing to forgo those schools for Cal Poly admittance. Any other’s accepted to Journalism?

From what I’ve read on past forums, first they remove the early decision from your portal, and then they notify you with a mailed letter that arrives around the 15th.

From my research, unlike most schools, the criteria for getting accepted early admission requires higher standards than regular, so if your stats are near those who were accepted you stand a chance. I would call admissions and see if they show any problems with your application if they will tell you, especially if you felt your numbers were competitive. I remember during a tour the admissions folk say many do not get in due to mistakes made on their applications.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you ought to know this.
Although the percent of applicants admitted by early decision is lower than the percent for regular decision, early decision is less competitive. Think about it. All the people with low stats for whom Cal Poly is their highest reach will apply ED, and so their will be many people with low stats who need to be rejected. But with the regular decision, all the highly qualified people who would rather go to somewhere like UCSD, UCLA, or UCB will apply to Cal Poly as a backup school, and thus form a much more competitive entry pool. Thus, if you are rejected early decision you will probably also be rejected regular decision. :(

Don’t be so dramatic.
I know plenty of people that got rejected ED and made it in RD.

haha Mike you gotta keep your hopes up! You’re bummin everybody out!

Sure, some people will get in RD after being rejected ED, but intuitively it makes sense that RD will be more competitive than ED, so it becomes more of a reach.
