I believe Michael is too pessimistic. Here are the stats of those admitted 2011 by department: <a href=“IR Home - Institutional Research - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo”>IR Home - Institutional Research - Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo; Remember only around 10% of the total admitted students are early decision. I disagree that only borderline students use this. Yes Cal Poly is a safety school for many applying to MIT and Cal Tech, and some other highly ranked schools, but even some of those level students prefer Cal Poly for whatever reason, so apply ED.

This year there were about 37,000 applications, with about 8200 applying for priority which I assume is ED; and expected acceptances of at least 11,000 (based on prior couple of years stats) 1100/8200 will be accepted ED way under the 30+% acceptance rate for all applicants. that leaves about 35,900 competing for the remaining 9900 spots. You have to believe a lot of the remaining students who became regular applicants will in fact be admitted.

Oh, and Michael, I am looking for the information I found but actually the stats for ED acceptances was higher than the average stats for overall admissions. In most schools, yes they are a bit lower, but at Cal Poly it is harder to get in ED than regular. I will post site as soon as I can find it.

just stay hopeful and be optimistic if you haven’t gotten in. michael2, your logic makes a lot of sense and that’s what i was thinking too but i think it might be different for some schools including cal poly. i have read recently that ED is easier to get into for the really high ranking privates but for cal poly it’s actually harder so people still have a chance so no one’s necessarily wrong because we all still have a lot to know about cal poly.

bWiener, jakotatio, csavoia: The Best of Luck to all three of you!

I was just accepted into ED for comp sci, but I thought Cal Poly was a binding school? Why does it give an option to accept/decline, and if I decline will I be put into the RD pool or ousted out?

“Thank you for apply early decision…” changed into just “Thank your for applying” Guess I didn’t get it :(, congrats to everyone who did though, you lucky people!

@Stefster Congrats, I think it was my GPA that help me back because I got a 28 on the ACT which is basically equal to a 1980. Have fun, hopefully I can get in through the regular pool.

If you decline ED, you’re out and you don’t go to RD. They make it so you have to accept/decline before you find out if you are accepted elsewhere, but I guess with their system, you could apply ED to 2 places.

jordan 94: it says on the cal poly website that you can decline but once you agree to the terms and conditions and accept the offer you “may be released only for compelling medical or financial reasons.”

If anyone else would like to be an admin for the facebook page (not much work, you just need to accept people who ask to join) I would really appreciate it. It’s not a lot of work, but it’ll be easier with more than one person :)
