2012 Early decision discussion

question about housing:
i know that each sierra madre tower has more people than yosemite’s (100 vs. 60) and that yosemite has coed floors, but is there any other difference between these two dorms? in your opinion which one is better to live in?

I have a question concerning the binding contract… I have been accepted under ED. what if i were to accept that decision now, and then a week or two later back out of it? any ramifications of that decision? Is it even possible?

I am second guessing my decision to attend Cal Poly, as I am more heavily considering out-of-state schools like Boise State, which is the town where i was born/have grandparents… etc…

any thoughts would be GREAT! :)

@leavingloomis – Here is the bottom line on weaseling out of your commitment to go to Cal Poly from the school’s Website:

“Early Decision candidates must be committed to attend Cal Poly. Students admitted under this plan and who accept the terms of admission may be released only for compelling medical or financial reasons.”

Cal Poly is an excellent school that thousands of kids aspire to get into and never have the chance to attend. You were one of the lucky ones to get accepted for Early Decision. Relax, you made the right choice, you’re are gonna love it and you should start the growing up process right now. You made a commitment and you should honor that commitment. My kid attends Cal Poly and LOVES it. The most common complaint I’ve heard about Cal Poly is that no one wants to leave after graduation.

Also, Boise State vs Cal Poly? Did I just get suckered into writing this reply by a ■■■■■? Are you serious?

My understanding is if you do not accept, don’t ever expect to attend Cal Poly. If that is ok with you then nothing they can do. But if you end up not liking Boise, you are talking VERY different climates, cultures and costs (what do parents think, assuming your are in state). Also not sure if you have looked into ratings. I’m not overly into going to an elite school due to crazy costs, but, I would compare your major at Boise vs. Cal Poly.

Again your question was repercussions, as I said you will not be able to go into the general pool, so Cal Poly is out if you turn down the early acceptance, and I sincerely doubt they will accept you as a transfer or graduate student.

The Cal Poly representative at my high school college fair told us declining the ED offer would mean you could not re-apply until your junior transfer year. If you want the straight dope it is probably best to call admissions and ask. I’m sure some of those reading this who were deferred to RD from ED wish you had thought through this sooner rather than wasting an ED slot.
