ED Materials Engineering
3.77 GPA, 1460 SAT(MATH+CR)
What are my chances?

Hey Question0,

I have a 2010 SAT or 1440 since writing doesnt matter. (800-math 640-reading 570-writing). My UC/CSU GPA is 4.18.

I’m a little over-qualified, but i Loved my tour of SLO. I am NOT the average, so dont panic.

Good Luck to everyone here!

hiiiiiiii
i applied early decision to cal poly with a major in business admin
i’m from fresno, ca, nice to meet you all haha :)

Wow, it looks like a lot of good scores! I bet you guys will probably all get in. Good luck to everyone though.

I’m from sacramento area and applied early decision for bussines admin! i’m so nervous!!

So, it sounds like the earliest we might hear is next Friday, December 2nd, but it could also be sometime the week of December 5th - 9th. Does anyone know how we find out. Does our Portal just change from something like no decision has been made to you are conditionally accepted? Do we get an email? Any insight in what to watch or look for would be appreciated. The anticipation is starting to drive me nuts.

3 years ago, my son first found out by a status change on the portal. Am pretty sure it was on December 5th. A few days later, he received an e-mail with a link to a ‘Congratulations’ web page. Not sure it still works this way, but I would check the portal on a regular basis. Good luck!

When my son was accepted RD two years ago, he found out on his portal a few days before he received the Congratulations e-mail. Now my younger son has applied ED and we are keeping our fingers crossed. I am hoping we find out by December 2nd. Good luck to all!

Could someone please chance me?

ED Materials Engineering
3.77 GPA UW, 1460 SAT(MATH+CR)

I have taken physics and calculus w/ a 4 on the AP calculus ab exam, although the course itself was not AP. This year I am taking abstract algebra, a very advanced math course, which hopefully will not be interpreted as regular algebra.

On the application I put 16-20 hours extracurricular and yes to being in a leadership position. I listed my ethnicity as Hispanic/Latino, which might help since they want to diversify.

What are my chances of getting in? Are my chances higher than they would be for other majors since there are only 150 students in materials engineering?

Also, since I took the AP test in calculus, when Cal Poly admissions recalculates my GPA, will they consider my calculus course as being weighted even though the course wasn’t actually AP? If they weight it then I would have 3.86 GPA.

I think you have an excellent chance! But your race does not matter in California. Your SAT scores are excellent. Best of luck to you. I have heard Materials Engineering is a very interesting major.

Does applying ED to Cal Poly increase ones chances since more over-qualified people will end up applying regular decision as a safety even though ED has a lower overall acceptance rate?

Also, since I took and passed the AP test in calculus, when Cal Poly admissions recalculates my GPA, will they consider my calculus course as being weighted even though the course wasn’t actually AP?

I’m not sure if ED increases one’s chance, but I’m assuming that ED gives people more chances to get accepted. If someone doesn’t get accepted the first time as an ED applicant, he/she will get another chance around with RD.

Cal Poly doesn’t ask for the AP scores on the applications, so I don’t think the Calc course would be weighted. I’m not sure about this either.

Applied for ED as Business admin and desperately awaiting a hopeful acceptance.
1400 SAT
4.27 Weighted 3.91 UW

Good luck to everyone here!
If anyone is willing to chance me that would be greatly appreciated.
If you get accepted for ED please comment here to let us know that they have begin announcing acceptances!

@gzilla575 excellent chances. ~99%. Your GPA and SAT scores are even higher than the averages for engineering.

Biological Sciences :)

I’m from: Visalia, CA.
(nobody knows where that’s from, so I’ll just say near Fresno)

ahh! so close! anyone else starting to get nervous? lol

The nervousness has been around for weeks, its just getting to extreme levels now. I post on this site to try to release stress and anxiety … doesn’t really work, but its better than just sitting around thinking about it. =P

I have officially begun checking my application status daily…

same here… although someone said the earliest is dec 2 if im right? i wish they would tell us before UC apps were due so i didnt have to pay all that money without knowing for sure i would have to :/.

for me the checking is more like 3 times a day…
