2012 Early decision discussion

Went to check, AGAIN, and Oracle was down. Now, this is when I got REALLY excited. But, alas, it was just an internal error. Hooray for December 15th.

Do we only need to be checking the portal only during pacific time business hours, or do they ever update at a different time of the day.

I would assume it would be PST because that is their local time. It seems their hours are 8-5, so those would be the most reasonable times unless they stay late to post them. Hopefully soon…

Come on, someone must know …

The suspense is killing me. At this point, I would think we are either going to hear something tomorrow, December 9th because in past years people have heard on a Friday, or we are not going to hear until December 15th. Possibly the delay is due to the increase in early decision applications…who know, but I am really going insane waiting.

i just have a hard time believing 4000 extra apps is slowing them up so much…they had ~32000 apps for ED last year and ~36000 this year. (or atleast that is how i read that document. not sure. That just doesn’t seem like enough to slow them up this much. either way, hoping for tomorrow.

does anyone know what the portal will do if we aren’t accepted early decision? because i know it automatically puts our applications in for regular decision if we aren’t accepted early.

I called admissions yesterday to ask whether the final ED decision only shows up on the portal or if you get some sort of letter as well. The woman I talked too said that if you don’t get accepted ED, nothing will change on the portal and your application will automatically be bumped to the regular decision slot. This doesn’t sound right though…shouldn’t they notify you if you don’t get in early decision?

I assume we will see something here one way or the other.

I just had an online chat with the admissions office and below is the comments:

AdmissionsCounselor: We have not sent out any decisions regarding early decision. We are still in the process of preparing for selections.

AdmissionsCounselor: You will hear from us by December 15th!

AdmissionsCounselor: Only one more week to go…

Me: Thank you so much. I will try and relax a little bit and wait for December 15th.

Me: By the way, how many early decision applications did Cal Poly receive this year? How much of an increase was it from prior years?

AdmissionsCounselor: You have done all that you need to do to prepare for selections. Now it is out of your hands. Just a matter of seeing how you compete against the applicant pool.

AdmissionsCounselor: We are still calculating the number of apps this year…

AdmissionsCounselor: We had about 4000 last year

Me: Thank you very much.

So, it looks like we are not going to hear until December 15th, or maybe a day or so before. They claim to not even know how many ED apps they have yet.

That is still incredibly vague.

And “We are still in the process of preparing for selections” What? That sounds like they aren’t even in the selection process yet.

And how in the world can they still be calculating the number of apps? they were all ONLINE so it should be a piece of cake to count them.

theyre so annoying

Just got accepted to Cal Poly architecture!

Congratulations!!!
My status hasn’t changes yet and I’m even more nervous that before. Good job and I hope you have a fabulous time at Cal Poly :)

Thanks. Best of luck and I hope you get in. I’m sure you’ll hear soon.

Congrats! Are you from California? I think they admitted some of the out of state people first in the last year or so, if I remember correctly.

Congrats c11263!!!
Cal Poly Architecture is awesome from what I hear!

Hopefully that means the flood gates open and we all find out soon!

Good Luck Everyone!!! :)

I’m from Pennsylvania, so i guess they’re letting out of state know first again. Thanks, and good luck!

c11263: Did you get an email or did your Portal change, or both?
