Congrats to all of you so far. To the folks who were so active like Michael2, jturn711xyz, LisaVargas1, charlened, and jambagirl a very special congratulations to you!

Now, comes the fun part! You get to research dorms and clubs, get to know the school better and the surrounding area. Make sure that your grades don’t slip (it ain’t over yet folks!). Make sure that you go to orientation/open house in the Spring – this is a MUST participate event! My son applied RD and then we did the rounds of schools that he was accepted to to make the final decision. We went to Cal Poly Pomona (nice, had what we were looking for but did not blow us away), USCD (great school, wonderful campus, but we realized then that the UC’s were missing something huge – namely a powerful hands on education and an emphasis on practical application), UCLA (after 15 min we knew this was NOT our program – nuff said), UCSB (gorgeous campus, ocean views, but still that UC overemphasis on theory and research and lack of accessibility to professors), etc., etc. Anyway, the Spring event at Cal Poly BLEW OUR MINDS!! Within 2 hours my kid turns to me and said, “I am sold!” We all got a little teary eyed and knew we had found the right place.

My kid just completed his first quarter and knocked the cover off the ball with his GPA. He is deeply involved in one of the engineering clubs, and got exactly what he wanted so far. He got to roll up his sleeves and get his hands dirty in every class. Even the English department required him to go into the community and do interviews for one of his papers. They are not kidding about Learn by Doing. Unlike many things in life where the initial excitement wears off after a while, Cal Poly seems to be getting better and better and more exciting as time goes by. For those of you that love the outdoors make sure that you take advantage of Poly Escapes. They organize all kinds of outdoor adventures. In your first week go to Poly Canyon and check out the architectural graveyard. There stand years of student projects to be climbed upon and explored. Hang out in SLO and make sure that you go on a Thursday night to the Farmers Market which is really an outdoor party and BBQ. The people are as cool as they get. The area is wonderful.

Make sure that you go to SOAR in the summer and WOW WEEK is mandatory for those that really want to bond early with the school. Oh and don’t forget to check out one of the Rodeos! They will cap off the Spring event with an intercollegiate championship Rodeo! We loved it – its cool even for City Slickers! Again Congratulations to all those who got in. You absolutely made the right choice!!

@almostmatt yes i see that.
Does anyone know how to do this? You accept Cal Poly’s offer of conditional admission through the Student Center on MyCalPoly using the ‘Accept/Decline’ link by the appropriate deadline?

@almostmatt
It’ll say that until your final transcripts come in (IIRC, it’s been a few years since I was in your shoes). And a button to accept will show up in a day or two.

One of the conditions they list is maintaining overall reported GPA. My GPA this year might end up being a little lower than other years. Does anyone know how flexible they are with this, and how much ones overall GPA can drop without them rescinding ones admission.
