I’ve been taking practice exams from past years. Based on the AAPT scoring method (+1 for correct answer, -1/4 for incorrect, 0 for blank) I’ve been averaging around 21ish. Based on the past tests, is this enough to make qf/sf (depending on the year)? Like, is a 21.75 enough on the 2009 F=ma exam to make quarterfinals for that year?

^Education. Above a 20 is pretty much 100% guarantee to the next round of the PhO test. Last year, the cut off for semis was 15 and the year before was 14-ish and one year it was 13.75 I believe. You’re more than ready for the test :P. Good luck!

I think I got a 15. On the past years exams my scores ranged from a 17-23 but I was pretty much a huge idiot.

Is a 15 enough to get in? What do you think the cutoff score will be this year? Did you think the test was harder or easier this year? I thought it was wayyyyy harder.

I could usualy get 20+s on the past tests but this time…I don’t know. 11 I answered 21 too and I was sure I only got 3-4 wrong at most…darn so bad there goes chances of getting into college

Finally finished the test! Oh darn, that was horrendously bad -___-. I’ll be kissing the ground if I make semis, and I usually get 18-20 on the other tests…

^piano: En mi opinion, hopefully the curve will be lower? The general consensus is that the test was much harder, but that’s still only with a very small group of people thinking that, haha.

^hawaii: Oh c’mon, don’t equate your college chances with one measly test. I’m pretty sure since you do so well normally on physics, you did better than you think you did on this one and have a smashing good load of other things to get you into a good place XD.

Kikuhana: I doubt an 11 will make it. I compared answers with a ton of people so I’m pretty sure this is what I got. Maybe a 12.25 if I misbubbled or miscircled or something. Good luck to you though!

What do you predict the cutoff will be? I think it’ll be 14.XX - lower than last year, but not by much (while lots of people say it’s harder, about an equal amount say the opposite).

Haha, I believe it’ll be somewhere around 14.XX ish, too? Don’t think it’ll climb up past 15, at the very least… (I hope I didn’t just jinx anything.)

does anyone happen to remember the problem statement for Q24 (or a confirmed correct answer)? my qualification for semis may/may not depend on this question and i’d really like to try and solve it at home.

(PM me, i’ll provide proof that i took it, if that’s necessary.)

I mean, general consensus on CC is usually based off the more advanced people in physics, so the cutoff may be a couple quarter of a points lower than what the prediction on here is. Fingers crossed for semis, and good luck to the rest of you!

When do we find out if we made semis or not?
