Daugther didn’t think she was going to be accepted at FSU or UF. She applied at UCF and USF thinking she would be accepted there. She was deferred at UCF in October and USF is still under review since September. The deferral notice from her safety school devasted her. Then, in December she found she was accepted at FSU and then last friday she was found she was accepted at UF. She is more than happy the way things worked out.

What were her stats? This is not the first time I’ve heard of someone getting denied by UCF but accepted by UF. I believe it’s because UF (and FSU as proven this year) looks more at GPA, whereas UCF looks more at test scores.

We know of 2 people this year denied by FSU and accepted at UF. That’s why you need to apply to several schools even though you think you’re not getting in.

Helpful Mom, that’s not possible. NOBODY that gets into UF doesn’t get into FSU. Just ask UF!

Cheermom: Wow. How wonderful! I’ll bet that’s a relief. Congrats to your daughter!

I honestly didn’t think i’d get accepted into the CARE program, but i got the oh so beautiful email of acceptance 2 wks ago and the even more beautiful certificate of admission in the mail a week ago. I am so happy and excited got into my first choice, doesn’t get mucj better than that. Got into UF too :)

@Matt–as I told my daughter grades and test scores are not the only thing some colleges look at. It’s how well rounded the person is. At first she wasn’t going to apply at FSU and UF because she felt that her SAT scores wasn’t high enough and that her grades where middle of the road. Shes has taken all honors, AP and dual courses. She is on the NHS, 4 years of Varsity cheerleading (with national championship wins, regional wins, state wins). She was on the Varsity team her 9th and 10th grade years. She also volunteered at the public library for a year, tutoring 2nd graders at the elementary school for a year and has volunteered at USO, Red Cross and Food Banks. She is also a preschool teacher at sunday school and was the President of the youth group at church. So, I honestly believe these are the reasons she was picked up by FSU and UF.

@ alongwait- yes, we are very excited…thank you!!

@Helpmom- yes, definitely apply at several schools. My daughter applied at UWF, UNF, UCF, USF, FSU and UF. In September she received her acceptance from UWF. In December she received her acceptance from FSU and UNF. Then in Oct. she received her deferral from UCF and USF is still pending since Sept. Then, of course a week ago she received her acceptance to UF.

@Brixrox…what’s the CARE program? Never heard of it.

@Cheermom12: it’s a program they have that’s usually for 1st generation students, but they have some exceptions, me being one of them. You go to the school on June 23rd for orientation and whatnot anf begin taking classes the following week. They pay for the summer session using grants and it includes housing and i think the meal plan, i have to do a followup on that. The summer session students are housed in Landis Hall, get to meet key faculty members, and are assigned counselors to help with the transition from high school to college. It’s basically an alternative form of admission and i’ve heard it’s a really great program

Finally accepted! I was offered summer admission about a week ago. It was pretty much out of the blue, which was nice. If anyone’s doing summer C, I’ll see ya soon!

deferredlol, is that after you sent in recent transcripts? My sis also got deferred :(

I called the Office of Admissions and they said my recalculated GPA with the first semester was a 3.1. An improvement, but still not good. On the bright side, I just re-took the ACT and got a 34. At this point it just looks like I’m intelligent but can’t be bothered to do any work that doesn’t interest me (which pretty much describes my high school years). Fingers crossed!

random, but does anyone know how long it takes for admissions to respond after you email them?

They should respond within 24-48 hours. 72 at the most.

If you’re contacting them about changing your application from Summer to Fall (I’m assuming since you mentioned that on here), I think that your application usually gets re-evaluated, since Summer has lower requirements than Fall.

But they’ll contact me before they make any decisions though, right?
I also looked at the courses they offer over summer and all the classes I need towards my major aren’t even offered until fall anyway. It would be pointless to go during summer to take one foreign language course that isn’t even offered during Summer A (which I was accepted for), but during Summer B and have to shell out $1200 or so for housing.

Sent from my iPod touch using CC

^ There are absolutely no other courses that can be taken to meet your liberal arts requirement?

I’m an upper-division transfer and have taken over 60 transferrable credits. I’ve looked up what other courses I need, at it’s mostly the courses that they offer in the Fall and Spring.

Ahhhh, that makes sense. Are you looking to live on or off campus? Places off campus will be a lot cheaper, especially with students sub-leasing. I know I might be, and I know a bunch of other people who are as well.

It would be cheaper, but I have looked around and haven’t heard anything good about many of the nearby apartments. I’ll also be living on my own if I did live off-campus. I might as well just live on-campus as I’m only going to be living there for a year anyway. Might as well get a little “college experience” as I’ve been at a community college for several years while commuting from home.

Jdc360 - I was in a similar situation, although you’re more of an extreme case than me. I had a 3.3 recalculated and 2020 sat. They obviously see that you’re capable, but probably also unwilling or unmotivated. If you do well (As, Bs) and you have strength of schedule, I think you’ll get in.
