2012 National Merit Semifinalist Competition

Has anyone gotten their psat scores back?????? Please post when received.

Not my child, but a friend contacted me last night knowing that my D is semifinalist for 2011,
and her son just received score yesterday (214 in Colorado - hoping its above the cutoff).
The cutoffs won’t be announced until August 2011 for the 2012 group.

I’m in Arizona, and I got a 215 without studying (Class of 2012). I should be making the cutoff, unless there’s a massive jump.

^“without studying”
how irrelevant and pretentious.

^Don’t be jealous of a good score.

NMSF, here I come (California)!

I agree with you 100% percent. I received the highest SAT Score in my school. When asked for my score by others who took the test, by far the most common response was “Oh well you studied for that…” or “MINE was without studying.” Was told by one exceptionally pretentious person that “Your diligence makes me question your natural intelligence.” So infuriating!

^^
There’s just no point in adding things like that. The score speaks for itself. People will be more impressed if you don’t sound like a d**che.

226

What I learned: Don’t tell people you did “okay.” State your score with complete apathy to avoid being jumped.

224 from Jersey.

Total: 211

Of course, right on the cutoff for Indiana  It will either be at 211-212 this year. I’m still really excited though! Think I’ll get it???

Also, I went into both the SAT and PSAT cold, yet my SAT score was 210 points below what the PSAT says I should have gotten. Is the SAT that much harder or have different material?

Lastly, was there a really harsh math curve this year?? I ran out of time to answer one MC question and got all the others correct yet I only got a 76. I have heard that in previous years missing one point could still get an 80. Just curious. Thanks :)

Of the 5 people I’m aware of who recieved finalist status at my school, 4 of them (including me) are in the same BC calc class, and all sit within 1 seat of each other.

CR: 71
M: 80
W: 73

Total 224

:) I’m content. Now I’m just hoping the cutoff for New Jersey won’t be a 225+

M: 76
CR: 74
W: 80
total: 230

@bjm3994: I’m with you! I got a 212 (76 CR, 61 M, 75 W), which is right on Indiana’s cutoff. In previous years, the cutoff has ranged between 211-213. Last year, it was 212, so we’ll see! I think that people were saying that fewer juniors took the PSAT this year, which may result in slightly more lenient cutoffs. Of course, there are other people saying that the PSAT was easier this year, which could drive the cutoff median up.

I haven’t taken the SAT yet, but it is quite a bit more difficult, according to my friends who have taken it. Still, most of my friends scored higher on the SAT than the PSAT.

I think that the curve for the PSAT was harsher this year in general. I missed 6 math questions and omitted 3, and I got a 61. And missing two questions in the CR and W resulted in 75-76.

CA cutoff for the class of 2011 was 219. It should change by no more than +/- 3 points (I would say +/- 2, but +/- 3 is safer).
